Job Summary
At Dominion Energy, our Security Background Investigators have the following responsibilities:
Conducts background investigations on new hires and non-Dominion Energy workers. Conducts interviews. Reviews and evaluates criminal history. Analyzes individual applications and reports, ensuring all information provided is accurate, complete, and truthful. Reviews and evaluates all data collected on an individual, including potentially disqualifying information, to determine suitability for hire and/or access. Ensures compliance with regulatory and legal requirements on collecting individual background information. Works with background security vendors.
Documents notes and findings, timely and accurately, into background database. Consults and advises Human Resources and company management on suitability for employment and/or access to company facilities. Reviews and interprets new regulations, restrictions, and guidelines, determining impact to the company. May assist with background investigator training, and with reviewing and revising policies and practices for background investigations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
3-5 years directly related knowledge and experience in background investigations, and/or related experience.
Specific knowledge, skills, abilities and experience include:
- Experience working with background security vendors is desirable.
- Knowledge of NERC Access Authorization Program.
- Knowledge of Fair Credit and Reporting Act, and employer responsibility.
- Experience with SharePoint, SAP, and SuccessFactors a plus.
- Knowledge and/or experience with security issues, specific to critical infrastructure protection at an energy company.
- Demonstrated skill in managing multiple tasks and responsibilities.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong computer skills.
- Ability to review and interpret regulations and guidelines effectively.
- Ability to apply knowledge of hiring guidelines to making hiring and access authorization decisions.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and maintain the security of confidential information.
- Exercises independent judgment and decision-making in planning, organizing and conducting work assignments.
- Effectively utilizes the proper resources to develop solutions and devise new approaches to problems encountered in work assignments.
Education Requirements
Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Bachelor
