Job Summary

Assist with the inspection, testing, service, repair, calibration, and installing indicating, recording, and automatic control instruments such as flow meters, pressure gauges, thermometers, regulators, and similar components in a power station. Assist in locating cause of defective performance of instruments, report findings to supervisor, and replace component parts as required. Use portable pressure gauges, manometer, and other similar test equipment. Perform preventive maintenance. Test flue gas, read meters, and record data as required.

Specific business unit duties may include the following:

Technician I will be expected to learn to and perform linearity and CGA tests, opacity audits, air panel checks, flow leak checks, as well as PM and Hg monitor audits. They will also be expected to assist with gas and flow RA TA testing and Method 30B or LEE mercury tests, under the direction of a Technician II or III.   Understanding of the basic electrical/electronic/mechanical principles as it applies to power plants.  

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

0-2 years relevant experience in mechanical electrical, and instrumentation work. 

For jobs as an instrumentation technician may prefer:

Familiarity with CEMS equipment, safety protocols, and procedures is advantageous. 


Internal and External Compliance to Safety Standards:
Follows internal procedures and safety protocols as well as external regulatory guidelines while performing tasks pertaining to CEMS audits/testing. Assists in maintaining safety standards, attending training sessions, and adhering to industry regulations.


Tools & Equipment: 
Should have a basic knowledge in using precise measuring tools and be familiar with the tools and equipment specific to power generation work.


Physical Requirements: 
Must be physically fit to work in a power plant environment, including the ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and under adverse weather conditions. Must be able to work on stack platforms and perform tasks requiring heavy lifting and prolonged standing. Ability to wear full-body harness are required.


Communication:
Good written and verbal communication skills are preferred.

Ability to climb to heights up to 250 feet or greater and work in confined spaces
Subject to overtime, and unscheduled work schedule changes to include weekends, and possibly holidays.

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Associate

Discipline Preferred: Technical

Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.
