Job Summary
Dominion Energy South Carolina is looking for a Survey Technician II to support our Northern Power Delivery territory. There is one position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate's education, experience, knowledge skills, and abilities. The work location for this position is Columbia, SC.
The successful candidate must be able to run the computerized field instruments, computerized data collectors, GPS receivers, and hand-held calculators, and make the necessary computations to complete field assignments. Responsibilities include:
- Operating all field equipment (electronic distance devices, computerized theodolites, computerized data collectors, levels, hand-held computers, and GPS receivers)
- Using applicable abilities and knowledge, determine complex calculations (horizontal and vertical closures, geometric and trigonometric shapes, straight line off a random traverse, and figure distances horizontal and vertical).
- Will also require physical work such as cutting bushes and trees with a chainsaw and a bush axe.
- Must be flexible to travel and able to work out of town for weeks at a time and flexible to work after hours and scheduled overtime.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):
- Survey Technician I: 0-2+ years of related experience with a High School Diploma or GED
- Survey Technician II: 2+ years of related experience with a High School Diploma or GED
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for Both Levels:
- Knowledge of surveying theories and principles.
- Knowledge of CAD. Good written and verbal communications skills.
- Computer skills.
- Ability to analyze drawings and specifications and to make precise decisions.
- Effective planning and organization skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
- Working knowledge of Global Positioning System practices and procedures.
- Working knowledge of various GIS software and applications.
- Proficiency in construction layout.
- Must be able to work all weather conditions to include heat and cold.
- Physical attributes required to perform essential functions of the job: walking, climbing, stooping, bending, and standing for prolonged periods of time, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
