Job Summary

This position is located in Cayce, South Carolina.  There is one position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate's education, experience, knowledge skills, and abilities.  This position is responsible for:

 

  •  Developing all electric meter configurations to support residential, commercial, industrial, and specialty DESC metering applications.
  • Configure/maintain/troubleshoot cellular communication equipment needed to support specialty metering applications.
  • Develop/validate communications to support SCADA metering setups.
  • Evaluate/deploy/maintain all DESC electric meter shop computer software and hardware.
  • Maintain electric meter TCA devices.
  • Support issues related to AMI reading systems.
  • Assist field meter workers with troubleshooting issues related to specialty metering applications.
  • Evaluating new metering products and developing testing techniques and procedures for equipment evaluation to determine how products will be utilized in house.
  • Coordinate with other business units as necessary for meter support normal business activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

 

Associate Meter Technician 

  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record
  • Must possess excellent PC skills and have working knowledge in the operation and application of personal computers and software programs (i.e., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, CIS, etc.). Knowledge of electric meters, current transformers, and potential transformers. Basic understanding of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Automated Meter Reading (AMR) technologies. Knowledge of basic math to add, subtract, multiply and divide and to perform the four operations with decimals and fractions. Skilled in the use of hand tools. Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex issues. Ability to interact with others, communicate clear instructions and evaluate results. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to respond to internal and external inquiries.”
  • 4+ years of experience in electric utility environment or associate degree in Electrical / Computer Field


Meter Technician

  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record
  • Must possess excellent PC skills and have working knowledge in the operation and application of personal computers and software programs (i.e., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, CIS, etc.). Knowledge of basic math to add, subtract, multiply and divide and to perform the four operations with decimals and fractions. Skilled in the use of hand tools. Ability to respond to internal and external inquiries.”
  • 4+ years of experience in electric utility environment and/ associate degree in Electrical / Computer Field


Senior Meter Technician 

  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record
  • Must possess excellent PC skills and have working knowledge in the operation and application of personal computers and software programs (i.e., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, CIS, etc.). Knowledge of electric meters, current transformers, and potential transformers. Basic understanding of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Automated Meter Reading (AMR) technologies. Knowledge of basic math to add, subtract, multiply and divide and to perform the four operations with decimals and fractions. Skilled in the use of hand tools. Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex issues. Ability to interact with others, communicate clear instructions and evaluate results. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to respond to internal and external inquiries.”
  • 6+ years of Journeyman experience in electric utility environment and associate Degree in Electrical / Computer Field

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

 

  • Required Degree Associated Degree in Electrical/ Computer Field 
  • GED
  • High School Diploma
