System Protection Technician T1/T2/T3 - Conneticut / Millstone Power Plant

Job Summary

There is one position available which will be filled at the level commensurate with the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience. 

This position is responsible for assisting in the installation, maintenance, and corrective actions associated with protective relaying schemes and other Operational Technology (OT) systems deployed in support of a Dominion Energy’s Power Generation facility.  Individuals in this position are developing the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform System Protection tasks.  Individuals will work closely with senior team members to gain protection and control experience. 

Assignments may include:

  • Assist in developing a Human Performance work zone strategy
  • Assist in development installation strategy (panels, wire pull schedules)
  • Assist in testing of various communication mediums (Fiber Optics, RS-232, Coax, etc.)
  • Assist in verifying each protection and control asset can communicate to front end communications equipment
  • Assist with acceptance testing of all voltage and current sensing devices
  • Assist with acceptance testing on new yard equipment cabinets, interface enclosures, and control house panels
  • Assist with functional testing of protective relaying, data communication and control equipment
  • Assist with the verification of station alarms
  • Assist with applying Cyber Security controls per Dominion Energy standards
  • Assist with completion of all compliance paperwork and supporting documentation

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

System Protection T1: 0 to 1 year of directly related experience with a preferred Associate degree *Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications

System Protection T2: 1-2 years of directly related experience with a preferred Associate degree *Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications

System Protection T3: 2+ years directly related experience with a preferred Associate degree *Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications

  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of control circuits, protective relay applications and substation equipment
  • Knowledge of testing electro-mechanical based relays
  • Knowledge of microprocessor-based relay technology, including logic diagrams, variable equations, and communication interfaces
  • Skills: good verbal and written communication; computer knowledge; leadership and training
  • Abilities: test moderately complex protective relays, remote terminal units, power line carrier and metering applications; direct/advise technicians in major control installations; work under tight deadlines and pressure situations; carry heavy test equipment; work independently; plan and organize moderately complex substation construction projects
  • Due to equipment weight limits, individuals in this role have a weight restriction of 290 pounds.
  • Military applicants: Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined (above/below)

 

Education Requirements

Education Level:

Associate Degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

  • Vocational / technical certificate or degree in an electrical or power discipline is a plus, but not required.
  • This requisition is considering upcoming graduates by no later than May 31st, 2023.

Due to equipment weight limits, individuals in this role have a weight restriction of 290 pounds. 

Due to after-hours response (call-out), individuals must live approximately 1 hour from designated work location
