Job Summary

Millstone Power Station is seeking a Nuclear Mechanical Maintenance Procedures Writer I.

The candidate must apply skilled craft knowledge to create, maintain or revise nuclear plant mechanical maintenance and other technical procedures. A good understanding of valves, diesels, engines, air compressors, motors, snubbers, and nuclear maintenance work practices is desired.  Applicant will assist in evaluating feasibility of requested or proposed changes, and analyzes documents as to their applicability.  This will require researching technical manuals, vendor specifications, plant diagrams, design documents, station policies and regulatory requirements to obtain additional information and ensure the procedures support safe maintenance of equipment, proper procedure flow and workability,adherence to regulatory requirements, and writer guidelines. The job entails performing plant walkdowns as needed, using observation findings and reviews, to develop and maintains technical procedures. With guidance, coordinates the review, comment resolution, and approval of procedures with user departments and management.   Evaluates proposed changes to procedures and current state of the procedure to support improving standards in human factors principles,  compliance with company requirements.     May support training with the development of training material required to implement procedures for new equipment and raise standards in procedure quality. This is the entry level in the Nuclear Procedure Writer series; majority of work is routine in nature, with general guidance provided by more experienced staff.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Associate degree or completion of technical program in craft discipline (mechanical preferred).

0-2 years of previous work experience demonstrating solid working knowledge of mechanical equipment. 

2-5 years of related experience is preferred. 

Experience with valves, diesel, lubrication, and engine knowledge preferred.

Ability to learn to prepare and write descriptive copy using publishing tools and writer guidelines, and to verify documentation, both orally and visually. Technical thinking skills, with demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical literature and documents.  Computer and keyboarding skills desired.  High attention to detail is required.  Must be tolerant to receive direction and coaching in this position as mentor provides feedback and oversight.

Education Requirements

Bachelor Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education.
