Nuclear Maintenance Specialist - Turbine

Job Summary

This position requires the successful candidate to be fully competent in most aspects of the technical discipline supporting all Large Steam Turbine Generator and associated auxiliaries. Applies knowledge and technical skills to provide planning and implementation of Turbine Generator and auxiliaries outages work. During outages apply knowledge and technical skills to independently provide project coordination, leadership and oversight. Provide technical support, direction and advice in analyzing, evaluating and solving Turbine team issues both in the planning efforts and during refuel outages. Responsibilities included are the development and implementation of improvements needed for efficient, quality maintenance work to maintain superior reliability of the Turbines, Generators, and auxiliary equipment associated. Provide project team leadership and coordination including scoping, scheduling, budget development, cost tracking and technical oversight.  The ability to lead a large team both contractor and Dominion personnel.  Provide a clear plan with direction and decisions. Utilizes computer technology in analysis of operating performance data to verify plant systems/components are operated and maintained as required by company policies, procedures, and regulatory agencies. Perform technical evaluations of events and root cause analysis to recommend corrective actions. Perform periodic reviews of industry practices to ensure use of most current practices. Fill in as first line supervisor leading crews in the absence of supervisors. Assist management with contractual staffing and budgetary requirements in support of station maintenance efforts. Develop and coordinate preventive maintenance programs for specific components. Work extended hours during times of expectation, including refuel outages etc.

Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Approximately 70% in the office and 30 % in the power plant is required.  Incumbent may be exposed to cold, dust, grease, oil, fumes, loud noises, operating machinery, hot equipment and/or pressurized piping and valves. Frequent walking and climbing are involved.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of large steam turbine experience including work coordination/implementation. Candidate will have in-depth knowledge of operation, maintenance, technical design applications, industry processes and procedures associated with turbines. Knowledge in the operation and application of personal computers and software programs, preventive maintenance process, schedule and budget development, and work control process. Knowledge and experience in writing bid specifications, evaluating and negotiating service contracts is desired. Nuclear Field experience, leadership experience, and contractor oversight experience is desired. Knowledge of FME, rigging, and OSHA requirements is a plus. Provide detailed briefs and expectations to individuals and large groups. Organizational, communication skills and multitasking are a must have. Project Management skills are desired, from an organizational, decision maker and take-charge perspective. Leadership skills with ability to coordinate with other departments required in this position. Coordination skills are required to lead meetings to resolve issues or organize an evolution. In-depth knowledge of industry codes, government regulations and company policy and practices.

Work effectively independently or in a team environment. Have strong oral and written communication skills, including technical writing. Possess strong analytical and abstract thinking problem solving skills. Be able to process information quickly with the ability to apply analytical skills to develop timely resolution to technical issues using parameter monitoring, technical analysis, vendor engineering recommendations and industry benchmarking.

 Ability to enroll and successfully complete a Maintenance Supervisor Training Program. Possess strong organizational skills, with a proven ability to manage projects with multi-disciplined teams to resolve plant equipment issues. Additionally, may include budgeting, scheduling, developing bid specifications and negotiating contracts. Demonstrate considerable attention to detail by evaluating adverse conditions and providing accurate updates on Maintenance Department performance for management presentations. Demonstrates thorough understanding of maintenance fundamentals including job preparation, human performance tool use, job site behaviors, qualifications, training, craftsmanship and post job critiques.

Degree preferred in Mechanical, Electrical, Turbine Generator, Engineering Technology, other Technical degree preferred. An equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: OEM Trained on Large Steam Turbines preferred. Large Steam Turbine Supervisor Experience preferred. Required education is a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Dependent on sharing functional responsibilities for the position, Millstone candidates must meet ANSI N18.1-1971, Section 4.3.2
