Job Summary

  • Independently prepare detailed design drawings and/or generate design changes from verbal or written instructions.
  • Manually and electronically design and draft detailed drawings related to nuclear plant equipment or systems such as piping and conduit supports, equipment restraints , base plates, hangers, and equipment layouts for portions of large and/or complex construction projects. 
  • Evaluate engineering changes and supporting documents to verify conformance to industry codes and company/nuclear station specifications and standards.
  • Conduct field walkdowns to gather design data, verify configuration, design concepts, or plant conditions.
  • Interface with equipment vendors and other engineering disciplines (e.g. Electrical and I&C Engineering) ensure that drawings, engineering databases and calculations are integrated and accurate. 
  • Provide field support to assist in the installation of the design, and to resolve any unexpected problems encountered. 
  • Review / check the accuracy of new and modified drawings completed by other designers. 
  • Provide additional input to Design Change Packages as needed to include materials or equipment, man hour estimates for proposed design work, drawing revision

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

  • Nuclear Designer:  3+ years of directly related experience; Senior Designer 5+ years of directly related experience. (Civil / Structural experience preferred)
  • Associate's degree in drafting or design technology, or completion of technical CAD program/ Certification(s) demonstrating full knowledge of accepted electrical engineering design drafting principles and practices is preferred.
  • Advanced skill in the use of CADD Microstation, AutoCAD software, and Microsoft Word and Excel.   Working knowledge of and demonstrated skill in applying applicable regulations, related codes, and standards related to specialty craft (e.g. Civil and Structural). Skill in reviewing and understanding moderately complex to highly complex technical documents, drawings and diagrams. Proven ability to accurately complete designs for large and/or complex systems, provide technical input to craft or engineering staff. Detail oriented, strong organizational skills, ability to independently plan and schedule work.  Strong computer and keyboarding skills. Good math skills, including geometry and trigonometry, with ability to perform basic calculations, review technical documents, drawings and diagrams.
  • ProjectWise, PAMS, DocTop, DocEm knowledge is preferred.

Education Requirements

Required degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree):

High School Diploma or GED

Preferred:  Associate’s degree in drafting or design technology. CAD certifications
