Job Summary

 The Nuclear Engineering department at Millstone Nuclear Power Station is looking for an Engineering Technical Specialist II and/or III.  The candidate will fill a position in the Engineering Department, possible positions: Systems or Design.   Position(s) will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

The primary area of focus will be electrical engineering in support of operating Millstone Units 2 & 3.  Specific duties are position-dependent but include monitoring and trending of electrical system health, preparation of engineering technical evaluations, maintain and develop calculations, and development of design changes. The candidate will work in a broad range of Electrical Power and I&C issues both on the component and system level. Another area of focus could be in supporting the Emergency Diesel Generator mechanical and electrical systems.

Candidates will be expected to have or gain familiarity with nuclear power plant design, including the Electrical Distribution System and or the Instrumentation and Control Systems at the station.   A Training program will be provided for the new candidate to obtain a required basic level of knowledge for understanding, plant design basis, operations, maintenances as well as work planning structure, including normal and emergency operating procedures.”   Candidates will be expected to lead small, cross-functional groups in solving system problems and planning for future equipment reliability.  They are expected to be able to work with minimal supervisor direction.

Based on qualifications, this role is fully competent or expert level in all conventional aspects of the subject matter. This is the second or third level position in the specialist series. May perform same work as titled Engineers, but possesses an engineering degree which is not ABET accredited.  Performs other duties as requested or assigned. 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences required for entry into this job include the following:

II: 3+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated competencies in applicable discipline with a bachelor's degree or it's equivalency.

III: 5+ years of relevant experience and demonstrated competencies in applicable discipline with a bachelor's degree or it's eqiuvalency.

In-depth knowledge of engineering principals, theories and practices. Ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline. Ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline. Strong oral, written and graphical communication skills including technical writing; ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature. Ability to conduct standard tests, measurements and experiments. Ability to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes. Ability to function effectively independently and as a member on a technical team. Excellent organization and project management skills. Excellent personal computer skills including knowledge of applicable software programs.
