Job Summary

Dominion Energy, Millstone Power Station, is currently seeking entry level Electrical Engineers.

 

Possible positions: Systems, Design, Calculations, MUR Project

 

Systems, Design, Calculations:
The primary area of focus will be electrical systems engineering in support of operating Millstone Units 2 & 3.  Specific duties are position-dependent but include monitoring and trending of electrical system health, preparation of engineering technical evaluations, maintains and develop calculations, and development of design changes. The candidate will work in a broad range of Electrical Power and I&C issues both on the component and system level.


Measurement Uncertainty Recapture (MUR) and Generator Upgrade Project:
The MUR project will improve the accuracy of instrumentation that will allow the unit to operate at a higher power level (power uprate). In conjunction with a power uprate there will be a Main Generator Upgrade Project. The Generator Upgrade Project will include, but is not limited to, a rotor replacement, stator rewind, exciter replacement, voltage regulator upgrade and other auxiliary improvements. The team will be developing/supporting documentation for design changes, engineering technical evaluations, License Amendment Request, and Final Safety Analysis Report updates.  
This is approximately a three-year project. However, once this project is complete it is anticipated that the Engineers will be incorporated in the Engineering Department proper. The team consists of a Project Manager, Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineer, Civil/Structural Engineer, Instrumentation Engineer, Designer, and a Drafter. The individuals on this team will be a part of a self-sustaining, high performing, cross-functional team. This is a high visibility position that impacts the station greatly. 

 

Additional Electrical Engineer I duties:
Performs engineering calculations, analysis, research and design. Under direction of supervisor or work leader, performs routine assignments designed to develop professional engineering work knowledge, gain familiarity with techniques, approaches, practices and the nature of engineering systems, equipment, etc. and to develop the ability to apply fundamental engineering principles and techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out sequence of related engineering tasks. Limited exercise of judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives. May conduct field/site visits to gather design data, verify configuration, design concept or plant conditions.
  
Candidates will be expected to have or gain familiarity with nuclear power plant design, including the Electrical Distribution System and or the Instrumentation and Control Systems at the station.   A Training program will be provided for the new candidate to obtain a required basic level of knowledge for understanding, plant design basis, operations, maintenances as well as work planning structure, including normal and emergency operating procedures.
 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
  • Candidate must hold a 4 year degree from accredited Engineering program - BS Electrical Engineering is preferred.

Students who will receive their degree by December 2019 are eligible for consideration.

  • 0-2 years of experience in Engineering.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering concepts, fundamentals and theory.
  • Oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).
  • Effective decision making skills.
  • Computer skills and application of software programs.
  • Analytical and abstract thinking skills.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Ability to learn to apply engineering theories and concepts to complex problems.

  • Ability to work within a team environment.
Education Requirements

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:

 

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

 

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

 

Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

 

Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry or Math and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

 

Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
