Job Summary

Associate Software Systems Engineer & Software Systems Engineer 

 

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Participate in major projects and resolves application or infrastructure issues
  • Maintains knowledge of established technical standards, and implements them within a workgroup or team
  • Resolves operational or performance problems by collaborating with required experts or teams within and outside of Dominion.
  • Knows and applies the fundamental concepts, principles, practices, and procedures to carry out all aspects of the job
  • May receive instructions and guidance on unusual or complex problems and knows when to get others involved
  • Effectively utilizes the proper resources to develop solutions and devise new approaches encountered in work assignments.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

 

 

Additional information:

  • Limited overnight travel.
  • Overtime and alternate work schedules during planned refueling outages.
  • Infrequent overtime to address emergent station issues.
  • Position may be filled at a lower grade based on experience and qualifications.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Qualifications (such as education,experience,etc.):

Associate Software Systems Engineer:

  • Preferred Bachelor's degree with 0+ years of directly related IT experience with Unix or Windows OR
  • Associate degree with 2+ years of directly IT experience with Unix or Windows OR
  • High school diploma or GED with 4+ years directly IT experience with Unix or Windows 

Software Systems Engineer: 

  • Preferred Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of directly related IT experience with Unix or Windows OR
  • Associate degree with 5+ years of directly related IT experience with Unix or Windows OR 
  • High school diploma or GED with 7+ years of directly related experience (with a H.S. diploma or GED)

Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications

 

The knowledge, skills, abilities, and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:

  • Knowledge of System programming
  • The candidate should be able to read and understand source code
  • Capable of reviewing a functional specification and interpret requirements into C/C+ computer language
  • Prepare and/or update documentation detailing software function and test plan
  • Able to develop and test in a controlled lab environment prior to implementing on production equipment and maintain code history and disaster recovery plan
  • Desired operating system experience include: Windows, Unix and/or Linux
  • The individual should be able to develop, maintain and support database, archive and system interfaces between various applications
  • Also the candidate should have knowledge or experience with networks, firewalls, and interfaces such as ODBC, PI, OPC, eDNA, MODBUS, and data acquisition equipment. 

 

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Access, Oracle, or SQL is a plus
  • Any experience with General Electric, Ovation or another distributed control system or PLC is a strong plus but not required.
  • Bachelors in Business, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or Information Systems.
  • Work ethic: Demonstrates the ability to perform the assigned duties within the realm of responsibility
  • Must possess skills to interface with various departments, internal and external customer groups to perform necessary work
  • Customer Service: Possesses an awareness of customer requirements with emphasis on major initiatives
  • Must be able to set priorities and demonstrate timely and effective response to customer and team member needs
  • Methodology: Must have an understanding of methods and processes of the business units within the realm of responsibility
  • Able to respond effectively to diverse demands
  • Ability to respond effectively and timely to the needs and requirements of the business units
  • Must provide personal availability and maintain rotation on call status
Education Requirements
Education Level: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Bachelor , Other Education: Business, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems
