Job Summary

We are seeking team players for the Pumped Storage Operator Trainee positions to work at our Bath County Hydro Power Pumped Storage Station. We provide a stimulating environment where teamwork, quality and innovation are nurtured and encouraged. The station is located in Warm Springs, Virginia, in a remote/rural area. The ideal candidates preferred to have power station or industrial/process industry experience.

In all cases, applicants should be continuous learners as well as possess high standards of performance, safety and professionalism.

Duties will include: inspecting, operating and monitoring equipment used in the production of electricity, performing daily routine operations; tagging equipment for maintenance and valve operations; and making entries into computer-based logbooks.

Operations team members work a 12-hour rotating shift, rotating days and nights, with a 6-day period off every four weeks (typically referred to as the "DuPont" schedule).

Trainees will be required to complete our Pumped Storage Operator Development Program.

Starting pay is $29.14/per hour with increments to $48.14 after 35 months

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Good physical ability and agility;
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, carry, bend, crawl, reach, squat, and climb ladders, poles, and stairs;
  • Ability to push/pull with arms, legs and body;
  • Ability to lift 50-75 lbs.;
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and close quarters;
  • Ability to complete basic fire training which requires wearing a respirator
  • Candidate must pass EEI Plant Operators Selection System (POSS) aptitude test

Preferences:

1) Power station or industrial/process industry experience;

2) Demonstrated mechanical or electrical experience

Education Requirements

Minimum of High school diploma or GED.

Other Working Conditions

This power station is a 'pumped storage' operation and the power house does NOT have any windows.  During the generating time when the water flows through the power house in generating electricity, the power house may be surrounded with water until 'pumping time' when the power house becomes a 'pumping facility' pumping the water back up to the upper reservoir.
