Job Summary

These position(s) which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities THIS TITLE IS TO BE USED FOR EXISTING TECHNICAL SPECIALIST II WHILE IN EXTENSIVE TRAINING TO OBTAIN QUALIFICATIONS AS A SHIFT TECHNICAL ADVISOR.This job is established only for employees who have entered the formal training program for the Shift Technical Advisor (STA) qualification/certification. Upon successful completion of the training program, the employee(s) will be qualified to perform the STA function of ensuring that adequate engineering and accident assessment expertise is available on-shift. Once qualified as a Shift Technical Advisor (STA) the employee's responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following: Providing engineering and accident assessment advice to the on-duty Operations staff during accident and transient conditions. Coordinating activities with site personnel in order to support plant operations. Assessing Spent Fuel Pool heat load during both outage and non-outage conditions. Performing risk reviews for emergent activities and schedule changes in accordance with WM-AA-301, Operational Risk Assessment, and EOOS, as applicable. Reviewing reactivity management plans. Supporting the on-duty Operations staff in matters pertaining to plant operations. Performing risk evaluations for emergent configurations, when requested by the Unit SRO. Notifying appropriate Station Management when there has been a reactor trip or other significant event or transient as soon as possible. Conducting independent reactor trip reviews and investigating unplanned reactor trips. Providing advisory technical support to the Shift Manager in the areas of thermal hydraulics, reactor engineering, and plant analysis with regard to the safe operation of the unit. During the course of the prescribed training period, incumbents in this role may function in the capacity of Technical Specialist II (i.e. during outages and/or emergent situations). Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • 2 or more years of operations, maintenance and technical design applications experience required for Technical Specialist II 
  • 5 or more years of operations, maintenance and technical design applications experience required for Technical Specialist III
  • Knowledge of the design and operation of moderate to complex systems and equipment
  • Knowledge of industry codes, government regulations and company policies and practices
  • Working knowledge in the operation and application of personal computers and software programs
  • Good oral and written communication skills to include basic technical writing skills
  • Ability to apply, with limited guidance, engineering theories and concepts to effectively address problems
  • Analytical and abstract thinking skills. Ability to problem solve and to quickly process information
  • Ability to interpret industry codes, regulations and practices with general supervision
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks
  • Project management skills

Education Requirements

Education Level: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of REQUIRED level of education: Bachelor , Disciplines: Preferred: Science or other like Technical Degree

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

One year of professional level nuclear power plant experience, 6 months experience shall be on-site, ANSI 4.4.8.
