Job Summary

Dominion Energy seeks a Quality Inspector or Senior Quality Inspector to join the Nuclear Oversight team at the Surry Power Station located in Surry VA. 

Quality Inspector:
Perform inspections and written observations of nuclear plant systems, structures and components (SSC) to verify that work performed meets regulatory requirements, codes, standards, specifications, work packages and procedures.  Responsible for the initiation of corrective actions to address discrepancies/non-conformances identified during the performance of inspection activities.  Review and interpret codes, standards, specifications, work packages and procedures for appropriate quality requirements including inspections.  May perform other organizational duties such as dispatching, on-call and night shift as required. 

In addition to the duties listed above the Senior Quality Inspector will: Assist subordinate inspectors with problem identification and resolution. Analyze data, maintain records, develop inspection plans and various reports such as department tracking data reports.  May conduct Oversight surveillances and assessments and assist in audits.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:

Quality Inspector:

2 year technical degree or equivalent experience, plus 3 years directly
related experience with Mechanical, Electrical, or I&C Maintenance activities.
•Possess the education and experience to be able to be qualified as a Level II inspector in accordance with ASME NQA-1-1994 Edition, Appendix2A-1

Preferred qualifications:
2 years of nuclear power plant experience.  Other knowledge, skills, and abilities:  Knowledge in most areas of inspection requirements and techniques. Knowledge of power station systems and components.  Knowledge of NRC regulations and industry codes and standards.  Good written and verbal communication skillsGood computer skillsGood interpersonal skills.  Ability to quickly process, analyze and interpret information.  Ability to lift up to 45 lbs., manual dexterity, color vision, hearing, stooping, standing and bending.  Ability to gain unescorted access to a Nuclear power station.  Ability to certify in all disciplines of Quality Inspection. Ability to gain unescorted access to a Nuclear Power Plant.


Senior Quality Inspector:

2 year technical degree or equivalent experience, plus 5 years directly related experience with Mechanical, Electrical or I&C maintenance activities.  Certified level II or Level III in accordance with ASME NQA-1-1994 Edition, Appendix 2A-1 requirements in at least 2 of the following disciplines: Mechanical, Electrical, I&C, Welding or Civil (including coatings)

Preferred qualifications:•5 years of nuclear power plant experience
In addition to the other knowledge, skills, and abilities for the Quality Inspector, the Senior Quality Inspector should also have:
Full knowledge of areas of inspection requirements and techniques.
Full knowledge of power station systems and components.
Full knowledge of NRC regulations and industry codes and standards.
Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions.
Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will count as one year toward the year of experience.

Minimum experience for the position: As specified in ANSI/ASME NQA-1-2008 and NQA-1a-2009 (2) as currently endorsed in Regulatory Guide 1.28 (3). (Dominion will use NQA-1-1994 in lieu of NQA- 1-2008)

Personnel performing quality control verification through inspection and test, or surveillance activities (inspectors) are trained and qualified in accordance with a program that meets the applicable requirements of NQA-1-1994, Part I, Basic Requirement 2, Supplement 2S-1, and Appendix 2A-1. The following alternatives may be applied to the qualification requirements:
1. In lieu of being certified as Level I, II, or III in accordance with NQA-1-1994, personnel performing operations phase independent quality verification inspections, examinations, measurements, or tests of material, products, or activities will be required to possess qualifications equal to or better than those required for performing the task being verified; and the verification is within the skills of these personnel and/or is addressed by procedures. These individuals will not be responsible for the planning of quality verification inspections and tests (i.e., establishing hold points and acceptance criteria in procedures, and determining who will be responsible for performing the inspections), evaluating inspection training programs, nor certifying inspection personnel.
2. A qualified engineer may be used to plan inspections, evaluate the capabilities of an inspector, or evaluate the training program for inspectors. For the purposes of these functions, a qualified engineer is one who has a baccalaureate in engineering in a discipline related to the inspection activity (such as, electrical, mechanical, civil) and has a minimum of five years engineering work experience with at least two years of this experience related to nuclear facilities.
