Nuclear Maintenance Specialist

Job Summary

Provide services to nuclear generating stations in the area of Maintenance programs, projects and procedures. Assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of these programs and projects to ensure equipment reliability. Provide technical support, direction and advice in analyzing, evaluating and resolving plant equipment deficiencies. Develop, implement and coordinate maintenance programs including but not limited to Preventative Maintenance Program, Foreign Material Exclusion, and Rework program.  Develop and coordinate preventive maintenance programs for specific components. Perform periodic reviews of industry practices to ensure use of most current practices. Represent company on industry-related committees, i.e. Preventive Maintenance, Foreign Material, Lifting and Rigging. Utilize computer programs to analyze operating performance data to verify plant systems and components are operated and maintained as required by Company policies, procedures and regulatory agencies. Assist management with contractual staffing and budgetary requirements in support of station maintenance efforts.

This position will be required to support Preventative Maintenance VBM and JIT process, Foreign Material Exclusion Program, perform Rework Evaluations and assist as the Maintenance Check Tech. May be temporarily assigned as a first line supervisor leading crews in the absence of supervisors and during outages.  This position may be required to be a member of the Station Emergency Response Organization. Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:

5-8 years of Maintenance experience that demonstrates working knowledge of maintenance processes, programs and procedures including Corrective Action, Foreign Material Control, Preventative Maintenance, Lifting and Rigging and the site work management system.
Must have one year of nuclear power plant experience if assuming the role of first line supervisor.
Completion of the Electrical, Mechanical, or I&C Training Program as appropriate is preferred
Must have good communications skills and follow through
Must have good understanding of risk assessment plan process
Demonstrates good analytical and troubleshooting skills required to evaluate plant events, identify causal factors involved and develop actions required to correct deficiencies. 
Strong organizational skills, with proven ability to manage projects with multi-disciplined teams to resolve plant equipment issues.  Additionally may include budgeting, scheduling, developing bid specifications and negotiating contracts.


Demonstrates considerable attention to detail by evaluating adverse conditions and providing accurate updates on Maintenance Department performance for management presentations. 
Demonstrates thorough understanding of maintenance fundamentals including job preparation, human performance tool use, job site behaviors, qualifications, training, craftsmanship and post job critiques.

Education: High school diploma.  At the time of initial core loading or appointment to position, whichever is later, a supervisor in this category shall have four (4) years of experience in the craft or discipline he supervises, of which one (1) year shall be nuclear power plant experience if  assuming role of first line supervisor.  Three months experience shall be on-site.

Education Level: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Bachelor , Required: High School Graduate , GED , Disciplines: Preferred: Engineering , Other Education: Engineering

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Dependent on sharing functional responsibilities for the position, North Anna/Surry must meet ANS 3.1 12/79, Section 4.3.2b, Millstone, must meet ANSI N18.1-1971, Section 4.3.2
