We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary

 

Nuclear Power has played an important role in meeting the world’s electrical energy needs for 50+ years.  With power demand rising dramatically in the decades ahead, Nuclear Power will be indispensable in meeting the concurrent challenges of Reliability and Affordability while also limiting air pollution. 

 

The safety and reliability of our four nuclear power stations are the top priorities for Dominion Energy Nuclear.  Essential to achieving these priorities is the support provided by our corporate, Fleet Engineering and Programs and Components (FP&C) department which consists of a variety of teams organized by specialization.  Daily, they are tasked with a variety of requests from the field that challenge their technical skills and experience.

 

To help fulfill their mission, the FP&C department is actively seeking to hire two Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) Specialists to join the NDE Department.  The roles will be filled at either the Specialist or Senior Specialist level commensurate with the selected candidate’s education, experience, knowledge, and abilities.  The preferred locations for these new team members are the Millstone Power Station in Waterford, CT, or the Surry Power Station in Surry, VA.  However, the roles can be based in Glen Allen, VA; Jenkinsville, SC; or Mineral, VA.

Job Responsibilities – Senior NDE Specialist

The Sr. NDE Specialists provide advanced technical direction and support to NDE nuclear professionals and related client groups. Simply put, they serve as the nuclear division’s subject matter experts on a host of NDE matters.  More specifically, the Sr. NDE Specialist will:

 

  • Maintain, develop and update Dominion NDE procedures to ensure compliance with applicable code requirements
  • Coordinate the NDE training program and certify Company and contract employees
  • Act as technical expert and provide NDE guidance to NDE fleet peers and related groups to ensure proper communication and interpretation of test results and prompt repair of components
  • Interface with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and other regulatory or surveillance bodies on various NDE matters
  • Review and approve vendor and contract employee NDE programs and procedures
  • Plan and implement strategies to comply with new and evolving regulatory requirements, including originating new examination techniques
  • Maintain, develop and administer training and qualification of the Fleet NDE staff.

Job Responsibilities – NDE Specialist

 

The NDE Specialists provide direction and support to NDE Inspectors and related departments by reviewing items such as vendor and station procedures and providing cost projections. Further, the NDE Specialist will:

  • Develop, update and maintain NDE procedures to ensure compliance with applicable code requirements
  • Audit contractors, vendors and applicable documents for compliance with Dominion written procedures, codes and standards
  • Act as technical authority and provide NDE guidance to NDE Inspectors and other departments to ensure proper communication and interpretation of test results and prompt repair of components
  • Assist in development and administration of NDE training programs
  • Perform NDE inspections of power plant components using advanced methods.

 

In all aspects of their roles, the NDE Specialists will be expected to deliver timely, precise communications with a variety of stakeholders via a variety of channels.  Further, they will need to establish and nurture effective relationships with both internal and external partners to help achieve the highest levels of performance.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

To be qualified for the Senior Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) Specialist, a candidate must meet the following minimum requirements:

 

  • Five (5) or more years of experience directly related to NDE work
  • In-depth knowledge of various non-destructive testing methods and their application in nuclear power plants;
  • In depth expertise with the requirements of ASME, ANSI, and ASNT Codes and Standards related to fabrication and in-service Inspection;
  • Proven ability to enforce the highest standards of operational excellence
  • Effective written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships to influence positive change

 

Preferred Candidates

Highly preferred candidates will have prior NDE experience within the nuclear power industry

 

 

To be qualified for the Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) Specialist, a candidate must meet the following minimum requirements:

 

  • Three (3) or more years of experience directly related to NDE work
  • In-depth knowledge of various non-destructive testing methods and their application in nuclear power plants;
  • In depth familiarity with the requirements of ASME, ANSI, and ASNT Codes and Standards relative to fabrication and in-service Inspection;
  • Proven ability to enforce the highest standards of operational excellence
  • Effective written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships to influence positive change

 

Preferred Candidates 

Highly preferred candidates will have prior NDE experience within the nuclear power industry

 

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education.

 

Preferred Candidates will possess:

  • Associates degree or higher in a technical field

 

Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above

 

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

 

  • Candidates for the Senior NDE Specialist are required to have achieved the Level III NDE Certification in four of the following NDE methods: Liquid Dye Penetrant (PT)-III, Magnetic Particle (MT)-IIII, Radiography (RT)-III, Ultrasonic (UT)-III, Visual Testing (VT)- III, and Eddy Current (ET) – III. 

 

  • Candidates for the NDE Specialist are required to have achieved the Level III NDE Certification in at least two of the following methods and maintain at least Level II Certification in two others: Liquid Dye Penetrant (PT)-III, Magnetic Particle (MT)-IIII, Radiography (RT)-III, Ultrasonic (UT)-III, Visual Testing (VT)- III, and Eddy Current (ET) – III.
