Job Summary
Surry Power Station Engineering is seeking an Engineer/Senior Engineer/Staff Engineer or Engineering Technical Specialist I, II or III to fill a position in Maintenance Support Engineering, where the successful candidate will be actively engaged in maintaining the strategic, long-term aspects of overall performance, reliability, safety, and condition of diesel generators, heat exchangers, and chillers for Surry Power Station. This is a site-based role, provided from Site Engineering at Dominion Energy’s Surry Power Station in Surry, VA. The individual in this role will work within a group of component subject matter experts who provide daily Engineering support for mechanical maintenance activities. Specific duties include monitoring and trending of component health, generation of periodic reports and presentations to management team, and preparation of engineering technical evaluations/calculations. Additional duties may include fans/dampers, turbine driven pumps, tanks (oil and fuel), strainers/filters, leak/freeze seal, and torque support. The candidate will work with vendors and mechanical maintenance to perform testing/inspection/troubleshooting of components and evaluation of leak/freeze seal packages.
Surry Power Station has two three-loop Westinghouse Pressurized Water Reactors which operate on 18-month fuel cycles. There are planned and unplanned times when additional hours are required to resolve component issues and return the equipment/plant to service. The successful candidate will be required to support both online and outage schedules. Overtime is paid for qualifying events.
The successful candidate will become a member of the Emergency Response Organization.
This position will be filled commensurate with the successful candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, and education:
Performs and/or reviews engineering calculations, analysis, research and design. Provides cost analysis as needed and develops recommendation based on calculations (e.g., cost for equipment upgrade) for leadership review. Under direction of supervisor or work leader, exercises independence in evaluating, selecting, and applying standard or well-defined engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Uses independent judgment in prioritizing and making moderately complex adaptations and modifications. Assignments have clear and specified objectives and require investigation of a limited number of variables.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience that are required for entry into this job include the following:
2+ years of relevant engineering experience (Engineer);
5+ years of relevant engineering experience (Senior Engineer);
8+ years of relevant engineering experience (Staff Engineer).
Engineering Technical Specialist I: 0-2+ years of relevant engineering work experience plus degree or additional equivalent experience; In lieu of preferred related degree, may substitute Associate's degree and 4+ years of directly related experience or High School diploma/GED and 6+ years directly related experience.
Engineering Technical Specialist II: 3+ years of relevant engineering work experience plus degree or additional equivalent experience; In lieu of preferred related degree, may substitute Associate's degree and 5+ years of directly related experience or High School diploma/GED and 7+ years directly related experience.
Engineering Technical Specialist III: 5+ years of relevant engineering work experience plus degree or additional equivalent experience; In lieu of preferred related degree, may substitute Associate's degree and 7+ years of directly related experience or High School diploma/GED and 9+ years directly related experience.
Knowledge of engineering theories and principles; Skilled in use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines; Strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project lead; Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing); Strong personal computer skills; Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems; Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices; In depth knowledge of various computer applications, with the ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.); Equally effective working independently or in team environment; Proven decision making skills; Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks; Strong planning, organizational and project management skills. Diesel generator and turbine driven pump experience is preferred.
Nuclear employees: Must have at least one year of Nuclear power experience.
REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA:
For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:
Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.

Note: Dominion Energy minimum experience and education requirements may exceed stated ANSI standards and candidates must meet the Dominion Energy minimum requirements.
For Nuclear employees, this ANSI standard must be met, all of which is met or exceeded in the Engineer series job summaries with the exception of the Nuclear Power experience requirement of at least 1 year:
ANSI/ANS-3.1-2014, Section 4.6.1 Education requirements: Baccalaureate or associate degree in engineering or related science. Minimum experience for the position: Related experience which shall include 2 years; Nuclear power plant experience to include 1 year.
