Job Summary

This role will be assigned a specific engineering program (for example: Inservice Inspection – ISI, Snubbers, ASME Section XI, etc) as the site lead as well as serve as a backup to other program leads on the team.  This individual will also be involved with the engineering department work processes, scheduling (online and refueling outage), and Department Self Evaluation Meetings (DSEM). This role does not function as a technician in modifying, operating or maintaining systems or equipment.

Provides technical support, direction and advice in analyzing and evaluating systems, equipment and programs.

Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria.

Devises new approaches to problems encountered and develops engineering criteria ensuring compliance with design criteria and standards.

Implements technology within an engineering field.

Applies scientific and engineering principles and methods, along with technical skills, to support engineering activities.

May provide technical project management including scoping, scheduling, budget development, cost tracking and oversight of complex projects to meet cost and time objectives.

Work in coordination with the Outage & Planning department to ensure engineering work items are properly scheduled.  Be able to participate in cross-functional team discussions involving the work planning and execution processes.

Participate in the regular occurring DSEM where the engineering department leadership evaluates the team’s performance and areas for improvement.  Assist in developing actions to be taken to achieve exceptional team performance.

Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Preferred: Experience with ASME XI Repair/Replacement activities and requirements. Experience with ASME XI System Pressure Test activities and requirements. Experience with CFR 50 Appendix J Primary Reactor Containment Leakage Testing for Water-Cooled Power Reactors activities and requirements. Experience with ASME XI/ ASME O&M Snubber activities and requirements and with Boric Acid Corrosion Control Program activities and requirements. Understanding of ASME Inservice Inspection and Inservice Testing as it applies to Pre and Post maintenance requirements. Experience with work scheduling and use of Primavera P6 scheduling software and with walking down and understanding nuclear power plant piping systems (i.e. Non-Licensed Operator)
Positive, optimistic team player with a solution oriented attitude. Prior SRO license and/or STA certification desired. 


 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Engineer I - 0-2+ years of relevant Engineering experience plus ABET accredited Engineering Degree

Engineer II - 3+ years of relevant Engineering experience plus ABET accredited Engineering Degree

Engineer III - 5+ years of relevant engineering experience plus ABET accredited Engineering Degree

Engineering Technical Specialist I: 0-2+ years of relevant engineering experience plus non-engineering technical degree and/or equivalent applicable experience

Engineering Technical Specialist II:  3+ years of relevant engineering experience plus non-engineering technical degree and/or equivalent applicable experience
Engineering Technical Specialist III: 5-6+ years of relevant engineering experience plus non-engineering technical degree and/or equivalent applicable experience

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:  Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.

Knowledge of engineering principles, theories and practices. Ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly defined engineering problems appropriate to the discipline. Strong oral, written and graphical communication skills including technical writing; Ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature. Ability to conduct standard tests, measurements and experiments. Ability to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes. Ability to function effectively independently and as a member on a technical team. Excellent organization and project management skills.
