Job Summary
Coordinate Radiation Protection (RP) Operations activities in support of station maintenance and incorporate radiological safety controls into work processes to protect station workers from the hazards associated with radiation. Attend work control meetings and coordinate completion of work as scheduled through the work control process. Coordinate scheduled work per the online plant schedule with Maintenance, Operations and other work groups as required. Responsible for ensuring radiological risk is evaluated for plant work and risk plans are prepared to support work as required. Oversee and/or supervise daily and outage radiological work activities and provide oversight for Dominion and supplemental RP personnel. Perform second line supervisor duties during the absence of the Supervisor Health Physics Operations. Perform other specific duties as listed below:
-Fill in as first line supervisor to lead shift activities in the absence of supervisors;
-Review and coordinate daily and long range scheduled Radiological Protection activities to support station operations;
-Implement and monitor RP Operations work and vacation schedules as required, supporting station needs while maintaining work rule compliance;
-Maintain and track completion of RP Department scheduled surveillances and periodic tests within completion due dates;
-Coordinate and oversee radiological job coverage and RP supervisory oversight as required to support on-line and outage RCA work activities;
-Interpret station and regulatory policies and procedures and analyze exposure data and make recommendations;
-Prepare communication plans for high radiological risk activities impacting the station;
-Maintain compliance with established NRC guidance and industry best practices.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:
Minimum of 7 years radiation protection experience is required (Health Physics Technician preferred). Must be fully versed in Standards for Protection Against Radiation (10CFR20). Must have thorough knowledge of radiological control practices and industry best practices: IAW Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO 05-008), American Nuclear Insurers (ANI) and Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). Must have a good understanding of the fatigue work rule process. Must have a good understanding of the radiological risk assessment plan and process. Must exhibit leadership abilities and work well with other departments to coordinate work and its completion. Must be able to fulfill duties as directed for Station Emergency Plan to include obtaining and maintaining required ERO/SERO qualifications, participation in ERO/SERO exercises and drills, and verifying availability through response to ERO/SERO call-in drills. Must have good communication skills and follow through.
