Job Summary

Surry Power Station located in Surry Virginia, is looking for a Civil Engineering intern to work in its Civil Design Engineering group in the summer of 2021. The Civil Engineering group of part of the Engineering Design department that support changes to the plant to upgrade obsolete systems, add new functionality, and resolve deficient conditions. This organization works to increase the reliability of the plant to support the operation to 80 years.

Job duties will include but not limited to:

  • Support the development of high quality and technically sound Engineering Change Packages (EC) in accordance with the Nuclear Industry Standard Design Process (SDP) to provide engineered plant improvements to the nuclear operating plant and solutions to operations and maintenance problems which ensure long-term equipment reliability. This position requires engagement and intrusiveness with Engineering vendors, Corporate Engineering, station stakeholders and implementing personnel throughout all design and implementing phases of the nuclear plant modification.
  • Support the preparation/revision/review of calculations in support of engineering products.
     Support the preparation and revision of specifications for the procurement of new or replacement mechanical and electrical equipment and interface with vendors to resolve technical matters.
  • Support the preparation/review of engineering studies to evaluate design related system operational problems and/or recommended equipment/system replacements in order to provide technically sound engineering solutions.
  • Provide routine technical support for design-related issues in construction, maintenance, and operations which may include the development of engineering technical evaluations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
  • Must be able to follow instructions and work with others in a team environment setting.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Focus on Structural Engineering work.
Education Requirements
  • Must be enrolled in an ABET accredited Civil / Structural Engineering program at a four-year college or university.
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Must have an anticipated graduation date of 2023; rising Junior
