Job Summary

This position performs stick welding on steel natural gas lines, including downhill welds using 6010 and 7010 welding rods and uphill welds using 7018 hot rods.  Duties include installing pressure control fittings, completing steel main tie-ins, installing steel services and repair fittings, and installing stations, farm taps and meter sets.   This multi-faceted position also performs natural gas leak investigation and detection and all installation and repair procedures of damaged service lines and plastic mains, sets up common Department of Transportation approved worksites, pinpoints and grade leaks on distribution system, calibrates instruments, safely drives a company vehicle, uses self-contained breathing apparatus equipment appropriately, and completes appropriate paperwork. The majority of the work for this position involves performing various construction and maintenance activities. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
  • 0-6 months welding experience and knowledge is required.
  • Must successfully demonstrate specified welding competencies within six months of acceptance of the position and is subject to periodic competency testing.
  • Must possess a good mechanical aptitude including experience with common hand and power tools and the ability to calibrate instruments
  • Ability to use self-contained breathing apparatus and squeeze-off equipment is required.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of safety procedures and a general knowledge of pressure control and tapping/stopping procedures.
  • Basic computer skills are key.
  • Effective communication skills for customer interactions is critical.
  • Must be willing to work with others in a team environment.
  • Position requires availability for natural gas emergency response after normal working hours.
  • Candidate must reside within a 45 minute response time from the geographical center of the assigned area.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) candidates are preferred.
Education Requirements

Completion of high school or equivalent (i.e., GED) is required.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record.

Must have a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or the ability to obtain one within 6 months.
