Job Summary
As a telecommunications technician, you will apply your basic knowledge of all areas of telecommunications and perform maintenance on telecommunications equipment.
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Installing and wiring routers/switches, coordinating for configuration and troubleshooting.
- Installation, testing, and troubleshooting of 2-way radio systems.
- Respond to system and service outages as well as storm/disaster support.
- Installation and wiring of routers/switches/firewalls along with coordination with multiple groups for configuration and troubleshooting.
- Effectively identify and utilizes the proper resources to develop solutions and devise new approaches to problems encountered in work assignments.
- Assist with maintaining the mobile data network equipment and associated hardware in vehicles within our fleet.
- This position will require oncall status for a week at a time.
This position will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Intermediate level: 3+ years directly related experience in telecommunications.
Senior Level: 5+ years directly related experience in telecommunications.
- Working knowledge of fiber circuits, MPLS and other LAN/WAN data circuits.
- Skilled in the termination and troubleshooting of various cabling types to include fiber and Cat6.
- Knowledge of fiber terminations, data circuits, 48V and 135Vdc power plants.
- Working Knowledge of LMR systems and other mobile radio infrastructure.
- Familiarity with cable identification, terminating cables, and Channel Banks.
- Prioritize safety, environmental consciousness, and attention to detail.
- Physical ability to lift 45 pounds and distinguish colors.
- Valid driver's license.
- Electrical/Electronic background and SCADA knowledge are a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing.
- Experienced using Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, and Spreadsheets.
- Minimum of two years of experience working in a Telco central office environment.
- Available for some overtime, call outs and weekend work.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
- Self-starter with a focus on safe work habits and behaviors.
- Ability to keep work sites clean and organized.
