Job Summary

This role serves as a technical expert in providing strategic technical/functional expertise and guidance related to all aspects of the income or non-income tax function. Responsibilities for this role include:  Perform extensive analysis to identify, formulate and recommend solutions for appropriate tax treatment and related financial and regulatory reporting for tax issues, including advising leadership on opportunities to standardize and ensure consistency across all legal entities.

Review and recommend process improvements for tax accounting, compliance and related financial/regulatory reporting issues. Contribute to the minimization of taxes paid by advising leadership on the tax aspects for planning and reporting. Oversee the preparation of related tax accounting and compliance matters, including presentation of items in the budget/forecast. Keep abreast of changes in tax law and advise management on the resulting impacts for the company. Maintain and recommend tax controls and tax accounting policies in collaboration with Tax Department management. Serve as a key point of contact for groups across DE on accounting for taxes, regulatory issues related to taxes, and other related issues. Provide guidance related to forecasting of tax issues as requested. z

Assist management in reviewing, managing, or providing oversight on various projects, work streams or audits and independently leads special projects or reporting requirements. Interacts with other functional areas within Dominion Energy and communicates tax requirements effectively to non-technical audiences.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

8-10+ years of experience in corporate tax areas.  Considerable experience in both utility and regulated accounting for the utility industry demonstrating expertise in execution of corporate tax strategies.
 

Specific knowledge, skills, abilities and experience include:
 

  • Demonstrate a broad comprehensive technical knowledge of tax issues and reporting related to the utilities and energy industry
  • Demonstrated knowledge of company operations and accounting systems. 
  • Exceptional analytical skills, with proven ability to identify and analyze the impact of new or proposed changes in tax law, including the ability to prepare the appropriate recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Excellent tax research skills
  • Experience in effectively working with internal and external auditors.
  • Proven management skills.
  • Proven ability to quickly analyze information and provide timely responses to accommodate multiple deadlines.
  • Skilled in the identification, formulation, and development of tax strategies to ensure appropriate tax treatment and financial reporting to minimize the corporate tax liability.
  • Sound judgment and instincts with respect to evaluating complex scenarios
  • Excellent ability to work independently, as a member of a team and as a leader
  • Excellent ability work under own initiative and tight deadlines
  • Ability to self-start and work on new initiatives that may be in an unstructured environment, and comfortable with ambiguity
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to influence others to achieve desired results.
  • Ability to develop structural alternatives and tax strategies and identify tax issues or impacts related to M&A transactions, new construction projects and other ad hoc business initiatives or special projects.
  • Strong consultative skills and proven decision-making ability.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management and regulatory groups.
  • Ability to analyze existing processes, provide recommendations and implement ideas to streamline and improve processes.

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:   Bachelor
