Job Summary

Directs and supervises the repair and maintenance of substation electrical equipment, switches, and pole/padmount transformers, including testing, painting mechanical repairs, and cosmetic repairs for multiple business units. Ensures proper safety and work procedures are followed. Manages logistic operations related to material planning, material requests, and bills of materials for support of electrical equipment refurbishments for all of Electric T&D. Facilitates, through software systems, the identification and retirement of old and obsolete transformers and switches. Prepares documentation for Property Accounting, to remove retired units from Dominion books for tax purposes. Supervises sorting and classification of received material, to increase dollar return on recycling and scrap sales by sorting, counting, removing oil, and general cleaning. Maintains equipment inventory, including retired, repaired, spare parts, and tools. Manages testing, repair, and maintenance of electrical and protective line equipment. Supervises material ordering and invoice reconciliation. Hires contractor services to perform work outside of the scope of the recycle shop. Directs the loading and unloading of trucks. Prepares crew rosters, timesheets, and employee performance reviews. Conducts employee training. Maintains consistent administration of IBEW contract and company policies and procedures.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

5+ years of related experience.

  • In-depth knowledge of electrical and line protection equipment voltage capabilities.
  • Full knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical theory.
  • Operating knowledge and theory knowledge of test equipment for electrical and line protection equipment.
  • Experience with managing union workers.
  • Experience with physical movement of materials, including put away, safe storage, and retrieval.
  • Experience with receipt and issue activities.
  • Experience with cycle counting processes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and previous experience with, warehouse management and inventory control systems.
  • Full knowledge of electrical safety requirements and industry standards.
  • Experience with process analysis and improvement initiatives.
  • Verbal and written communication skills, analytical, and able to process information quickly. 
  • Planning and scheduling skills, organizational skills, problem-solving skills, decision-making skills.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Ability to operate equipment and tools.
  • Ability to be flexible.
  • Ability to walk, climb, bend, and to stand for a prolonged period.

 

Preferred 

  • Experience with electrical distribution planning and systems.
  • Crane and rigging experience.
  • Electrical equipment operations, maintenance, repairs of regulators, transformers, switches.
  • Understanding of oil properties and usage in electrical equipment and environmental fundaments of managing oil. 
  • PCB management.
  • Ability to research, understand, and implement environmental regulations.
  • Understanding of metallurgy.
  • SAP experience.
  • Strong logistics.
  • Forecasting and budgeting.
  • Investment recovery experience with the ability to perform cost/benefit analysis of materials.  
  • Waste and waste reduction strategies. 

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:
Bachelor

Preferred Disciplines: Electronics, Electrical Technology, Engineering, Supply Chain Management
Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.
