Job Summary
Overview:
We are seeking a Cloud Native Application Solutions Architect with comprehensive expertise in application architecture design and the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC). The preferred candidate should have a proven history of architecting cloud-native solutions and modernizing legacy systems for deployment on Kubernetes or other container platforms. Practical experience leading development teams through refactoring, re-platforming, and migration projects is essential. Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate a thorough understanding of how architectural decisions, developer tools, and platform selection affect velocity, reliability, and ongoing maintainability.
The Cloud Native Application Solutions Architect will engage in creating standards for modern applications and contribute to comprehensive architecture design for modern solutions—encompassing containers/Kubernetes environments, cloud services, application security, access control, integration, and delivery pipelines. The objective is to develop reusable architecture patterns to ensure that applications are secure, scalable, observable, resilient, and operable in real-world production settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead application architecture design for cloud‑native solutions, with accountability across design, build, deploy, and operate phases of the SDLC.
- Define and evolve application‑centric design patterns that align with enterprise platforms and standards.
- Establishes and maintains effective collaborations with enterprise architects, other solution architects, and technology Centers of Excellence team to ensure reference architectures are practical, testable, and production‑ready.
- Research new use cases, creates and updates application architecture design patterns to support both present and future product needs.
- Leads feasibility studies and proof of concept efforts on technologies to determine requirements fit, scaling needs and costs, and establish standards and design patterns for others to follow.
- Provides guidance on methods and tools for development and enhancement of application(s), consistent with established IT standards.
- Participate in COTS platform and vendor evaluations, with a strong focus on cloud‑native compatibility and maturity.
- Conducts design and code reviews, to ensure technical quality, alignment with enterprise architecture, and adherence to established standards and guidelines.
- Recommends application architecture-level changes to meet availability, reliability, or performance objectives.
This position may be based in Richmond, VA or Cayce, SC.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 7+ years of relevant experience in directly related field
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on innovative solutions.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and shifting business requirements.
- Expert knowledge in developing cloud native applications and migrating legacy applications to modern architecture
- Expertise in cloud native architecture design principles to ensure reliability and security
- Technical skills and experience with modern application architecture design, SDLC processes, and cloud native application platforms, including

- Microservices and modular monoliths
- Cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP), Kubernetes (OpenShift, AKS, EKS, etc.), and container platforms (ACA, ECS, etc.)
- Authentication and authorization standards (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML)
- Least‑privilege access control (RBAC, ABAC, policy‑based access)
- Asynchronous and event‑driven architectures
- API‑based integrations and secure secret management
- mTLS for secure service‑to‑service communication
- Application observability (logging, metrics, tracing, APM tools)
- DevOps CI CD pipelines & Gitops
- Application security best practices (OWASP, etc.)
- Knowledge of development tools, modern languages and runtimes (.Net, Python, etc.)

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:
