We offer a hybrid work schedule (one week in the office, one week of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary

Overview:
The Cloud Native Application Architect is responsible for establishing standards for modern application development and contributing to comprehensive architecture designs for cloud-native solutions. This includes containerized and Kubernetes-based environments, cloud services, application security, access control, system integration, and CI/CD delivery pipelines. The role focuses on developing reusable architecture patterns that ensure applications are secure, scalable, observable, resilient, and ready for real‑world production operations.

Key Responsibilities:
• Builds and maintains strong working relationships with enterprise architects, solution architects, and technology Centers of Excellence (COEs).
• Researches emerging use cases and creates or updates application architecture design patterns to support current and future product needs.
• Leads feasibility studies and proof-of-concept initiatives to evaluate technology fit, scalability, cost considerations, and to define standards and patterns for broader adoption.
• Provides guidance on tools, frameworks, and methods for application development and enhancement in alignment with established IT standards.
• Participates in RFx processes to evaluate vendor platforms and solutions.
• Conducts architecture, design, and code reviews to ensure technical quality, alignment with enterprise architecture, and adherence to standards and guidelines.
• Recommends application-level architectural improvements to meet availability, reliability, and performance objectives.

This position may be based in Richmond, VA or Cayce, SC.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in directly related field 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on innovative solutions
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and shifting business requirements.
  • Expert knowledge in a multi-platform operating environment, computing architectures, development methodologies and tools and implementation of networked computing structures
  • Expertise in cloud native architecture design principles to ensure reliability and security
  • Experience with modern application architecture and technologies, including but not limited to
    • Microservices and modular monoliths
    • Cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP) and Kubernetes platforms (including OpenShift)
    • Least‑privilege access control (RBAC, ABAC, policy‑based access)
    • Authentication and authorization standards (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML)
    • Application security best practices (NIST, OWASP, Zero Trust)
    • API‑based integrations and secure secret management
    • Asynchronous and event‑driven architectures
    • Application observability (logging, metrics, tracing, APM tools)
    • mTLS for secure service‑to‑service communication
    • DevOps CI CD pipelines & Gitops
    • Relational, NoSQL, and cloud‑native databases
  • Knowledge of development tools, modern languages and runtimes (.Net, Python, etc.)
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance (NERC, FERC, SOX, PCI DSS, etc.)

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

Bachelor

Preferred Discipline(s): Business, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics
