Job Summary

  • Performs various functions of the Meter Shop relating to the inspection, programming and testing of electric meters, metering equipment and auxiliary metering devices.  
  • Works with a variety of meters and metering technology. 
  • Responds to inquiries from internal and external customers. 
  • Maintains weekly production reports. Works closely with Engineering & Planning, as well as, project teams.  
  • Performs other duties as requested or assigned.

 

*The starting pay rate will be $23.45 per hour advancing progressively to $25.93 per hour after one year.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Proficient personal computer skills
    • Cut, copy, paste functions
    • Knowledge of file formats and saving into proper directories
    • Email communications
    • Microsoft office products
  • Ability to advance through a 6 step developmental program. The steps will overview everything from safe work practices, metering concepts, mathematics and electrical theory. At the end of each step a proficiency test must be taken and passed to advance to the next level.
  • Performs bench testing and calibration of mechanical and solid state meters.
  • Performs interrogation and programming of meters and related equipment.
  • Skill in the use of hand tools needed for making required repairs and adjustments.
  • In later steps, perform bench testing on CT, VT and CVT transformers.
  • Installs meter communication devices or upgrades as required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment or independently.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Ability to follow company safety practices and policies.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Skill in basic electricity and electronics, as applied to electrical wiring, power and meters.
  • Familiarity with using basic electrical equipment such as volt, ohm and ammeter’s.
  • Working in production environments.
  • Skill in reading schematic diagrams and wiring layouts.
  • General problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal written and communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of AMI and AMR systems, their components and associated communication technology

Education Requirements

•    GED or HS diploma required
Technical/Associates educations are advantageous 
Demonstrated related experience may be substituted for formal degrees or certificates
