We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary

This position will be hired at either a Senior or Staff level Engineer position. 

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineer to join our team. The Engineer will be responsible for DER Interconnection Studies and Engineering, as well as supporting the planning, coordinating, and overseeing distributed energy resource (DER) projects including, including but not limited to Energy Storage, with a focus on grid-edge technologies projects from inception to completion. Those responsibilities include but are not limited to developing, implementing, and managing various engineering projects. This role combines expertise in power systems, systems protection, renewable energy, energy storage, and advanced grid integration to deliver innovative solutions.

The engineer will review and analyze grid requirements, the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develop strategies for improving and further leveraging these systems. Develop and interpret organizational goals, policies, and procedures. Review project strategies to plan and coordinate project activity. Stay abreast of advances in technology, working with internal and external stakeholders, to identify additional projects and partnerships in furtherance of the DEV objectives.

This role requires a strong technical background, excellent project management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Required:
•    Full knowledge of engineering theories and principles.
•    Skilled in use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines.
•    Strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project lead.
•    Provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
•    Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).
•    Strong personal computer skills.
•    Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
•    Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices.
•    Equally effective working independently or in a team environment.
•    Proven decision-making skills.
•    Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks.
•    Strong planning, organizational and project management skills.
 
Preferred:

•    Experience with Synergi, CYME, or similar distribution modeling software.

•    Experience with GIS.

•    Experience with DERMS.

•    Data analytics/data science experience.

•    Ability to breakdown complex engineering concepts for mass consumption.

•    Professional Engineering (PE) license.

•    Experience with Electric Transmission and Electric Distribution System Protection.

•    Demonstrated understanding of inverter-based DER Technology, including but not limited to:
     -  PV
     -  Battery

Basic Qualifications

•    Senior Engineer: 5+ years (or equivalent through education and experience) of engineering experience.
•    Staff Engineer: 8+ years (or equivalent through education and experience) of engineering experience.

     -  Note: a partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications.

•    Required working experience in a Utility and/or COOP.

 

Education Requirements

Requirements for both Senior and Staff level Engineer:

(Equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree):

Required:  Bachelor's degree

Preferred:  Master’s degree
Demonstrated related or equivalent experience may be substituted for preferred education.
 
Disciplines Preferred:
Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Renewable Energy, or a related field.

 

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA:  For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:  Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or   Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or   Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or   Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
