Job Summary

Dominion Energy is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to support telecommunications transport systems and the tools used to monitor, manage, maintain, and restore critical infrastructure services. This role supports high-availability telecommunications environments, including DWDM, MPLS, microwave, optical transport, routing, switching, and related monitoring, inventory, automation, and recovery platforms. The role helps maintain reliable communications services that support critical utility operations. This role mentors team members, provides guidance, and promotes team development.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced operational support for telecommunications transport systems and associated management platforms.
  • Support production system health, planned maintenance, service restoration, software patching, firmware upgrades, lifecycle activities, turn-ups, decommissions, and recovery readiness.
  • Troubleshoot complex service issues, support escalations, follow established standards and procedures, and help improve monitoring accuracy, documentation, backup validation, and operational reporting.
  • Provide mentorship and operational guidance to less-experienced team members by sharing knowledge, reinforcing standard procedures, and helping build the skills needed to support the environment effectively.

 

Candidates for this role may be located in the Richmond, VA, or Cayce, SC area.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:

  • 5 + years of experience preferably of one or more years of telecommunications, network operations, infrastructure operations, or transport network support experience.
  • Experience in telecommunications operations, transport network support, infrastructure operations, network operations, or a related technical field.
  • Experience supporting transport network technologies such as MPLS, DWDM, optical transport, microwave, routing, switching, Layer 2 / Layer 3 services, or other high-availability network services.
  • Experience supporting network monitoring, management, automation, service management, or inventory platforms such as Nokia NSP / NFM-P / NFM-T, SolarWinds, Circuit Vision, ServiceNow, or similar tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting, incident response, change management, documentation, communication, vendor coordination, cross-functional support, mentorship, and knowledge-transfer skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a critical infrastructure environment, support planned maintenance activities, and follow operational procedures.
  • Ability to work as team member and lead/coordinate activities across technical teams, business partners, vendors, and operational support groups, with a focus on ownership, sound judgment, clear communication, and service reliability. 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Experience with utility telecommunications networks, transport operations, and legacy TDM services and equipment.
  • Experience with telecommunications management and monitoring platforms such as Nokia NSP / NFM, Ciena MCP, SEL EMS, SEL ICON, SolarWinds, Circuit Vision, ServiceNow, or similar tools.
  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux or similar Linux distributions, command-line troubleshooting, system patching, vulnerability remediation, log review, and backup validation.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and alerting practices, operational runbooks, standard operating procedures, maintenance coordination, disaster recovery readiness, patch governance, lifecycle management, and vendor-supported production environments.
  • Exposure to scripting, APIs, service orchestration, or intent-based networking when used to improve operational efficiency, monitoring accuracy, or service restoration.
  • Additional valued skills include attention to detail, strong troubleshooting ability, sound judgment under pressure, teamwork, clear communication, and the ability to work independently.

Education Requirements

-Bachelor’s degree in information technology, telecommunications, engineering, computer science, operations technology, or a related discipline preferred.

-Equivalent combination of education, technical training, operational experience, and relevant hands-on support experience may be considered.

Licenses, Certifications, and Qualifications

-Relevant network, telecommunications, cybersecurity, infrastructure operations, service management, automation, or vendor certifications preferred but not required.

-Examples may include Cisco, Nokia, Ciena, CompTIA, ITIL, Linux, or other industry-recognized certifications applicable to transport systems, monitoring platforms, incident response, change management, automation, or infrastructure operations.

Working Conditions

-Office Work Environment 76 -100%
-Travel Up to 25%
-Supports a high-availability critical infrastructure environment.
-May require on-call rotation, planned maintenance windows, outage response, storm duty, and after-hours support for critical incidents or business needs.
-Storm duty may require extended schedules and multiple overnight stays based on event duration, restoration needs, and business requirements.

Expected Hiring Base Salary Range:

 

$90,900 - $118,100

 

The expected hiring base salary range is the range we anticipate hiring within for this position. The actual salary offered may vary based on factors such as the selected candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and work location. This is not intended to represent the full salary range for the position or limit future compensation growth.
