Senior Human Resources Specialist (Medical, Vision, Life and Reporting)

Job Summary

This role focuses on the administration of medical, vision and life insurance programs with specific focus on the Company's medical programs.  This role is also responsible for the ownership of related vendor relationships.  

Specific responsibilities include the following:


  • Develops, implements and coordinates corporate wide policies, programs and processes in functional specialty and monitors effectiveness to further business objectives and legal requirements.
  • Keeps abreast of current practice and informed of new developments, through vendor discussions and independent research to identify improvements or changes needed and to alert management to need for action.
  • Educates managers and partners within human resources community on policies and programs and provide guidance to their administration.
  • Manages external vendor relationships; builds and maintains internal stakeholder rapport. 
  • Identifies and recommends cost control measures and long-range strategies that will maintain competitiveness and facilitate achievement of corporate objectives.
  • Verifies monthly billing for areas of specialty, as needed. 
  • Provides tools to address HR issues and initiatives within area of expertise.
  • Gathers and compiles data, performs analysis and makes recommendations. 
  • Manage functions related to dependent eligibility, death claims and payroll preview of plan deductions. 
  • Fulfil report requests including benchmarking surveys, census data and ad hoc report requests. 
  • Administer benefit concierge and Business Travel Accident programs. 
  • Provide back-up support for other benefit plans, including HSA plans. 

Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

5+ years of related HR benefits experience. (Note:  A Master's degree will count as one year of experience.  A partial year of six months or more will be rounded up to one year of experience)

Specific knowledge, skills, abilities and experience include:

  • Directly related experience with the administration of medical, vision and life insurance benefit programs.
  • Strategic approach to administration of benefit programs and problem-solving. 
  •  Proactive in remaining current on health insurance legislation, including CAA and TiC. 
  • Proven track record of strong vendor relationship management.
  • Ability to present and communicate information and training related to benefit programs to all levels across the organization. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal and persuasion skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously. 
  • Strong time management and organization skills.
  • The willingness to embrace change and work in a dynamic environment.
  • Program and project management skills.
  • Proficient personal computer skills and in-depth knowledge of Microsoft applications.

The company is actively seeking United States military veterans and service members who meet the qualifications outlined above.

  • Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience are encouraged to apply.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education.

Preferred: Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR)
