Job Summary

Solving our country’s energy and environmental challenges requires new solutions and investments.  Dominion Energy’s Renewable National Gas (RNG) initiative is an exciting piece of this complex puzzle.  By partnering directly with dairy farmers, Dominion Energy’s RNG infrastructure captures methane from manure for energy needs and produces valuable water and bedding resources.  With effective management, these projects are a win for farmers, Dominion Energy, and the environment.

 

As its portfolio of client partners expands, the RNG team is actively looking to hire a Renewable Natural Gas Project Manager (“PM”).  The PM will run point in managing up to a dozen RNG projects concentrated in Colorado.  They will be responsible for providing leadership to ensure the successful development, operation, and management of renewable natural gas projects, as well as evaluating and supporting the development of prospective natural gas infrastructure opportunities.  The PM works collaboratively with the site management team, partners, vendors, and internal resources including, but not limited to legal, energy marketing, engineering, accounting, regulatory compliance, tax, project construction and environmental) to achieve maximum project profitability with safety, ethics, and compliance in mind. The PM will provide insights and supports due diligence in furtherance of gas-related acquisitions.  They will also provide transaction support for potential asset divestitures. This role supports multiple project sites and technologies. 

Primary duties include:

•    Financial:  Work with Financial Services group to understand net income calculations of renewable natural gas assets and reconcile and explain variances to budget. Develop or obtain financial and non-financial assumptions, contract provisions and risk assessment metrics. 
•    Project Metrics and Tracking:  Provide data as needed to track project performance and concerns (timing, resources, competition); support stakeholder outreach/coordination and activities to meet budget/governance requirements; Coordinate effectively with partners, business unit counterparts, engineering, construction management and operations, 3rd party operations team, among other stakeholders.
•    Team Building and Communications:  Engage with O&M and project teams; leverage communications tools for engagement with relevant O&M and project teams. 
Process Improvement:  Support team efforts to address project complexity and stakeholder outreach issues; may engage with external stakeholder coordination and mediation resources; identify and recommend process improvement
•    Energy Marketing:   Coordinate dialogue and information sharing between the site and its marketing agent to aid in the understanding of how operational issues may impact project output and revenues. Support representation of Dominion's interests with stakeholders’ groups to ensure renewable natural gas assets are fairly treated by the marketplace. 
•    Business Development:   Manage relationships with stakeholders, landowners, and lessors. By their nature, many of these renewable projects are and will continue to be partnerships. A key component of this job function will be to manage that partnership relationship while always having Dominion's best interest in mind. Support Dominion's Business Development group as needed. 
•    Legal:  Participate in the negotiation, modification, and execution of contracts for the various projects. Many projects are partnerships, therefore, partnership agreements, marketing agreements, leases, equipment warranties, O&M agreements, environmental permits, etc. will need to be managed in consultation with our partners. 
•    Operational Excellence:  Monitor operational performance of fleet of assets on an ongoing basis. Characterize the performance and highlight where improvement is necessary. Work with site and other resources to put action plans together to improve performance. Coordinate operation & maintenance of renewable natural gas facilities. Work with counterparts to support the smooth transition of completed projects to Operations and Customer Service personnel. 
•    Operations and Maintenance:  Work with and support 3rd party operations team for tasks including but not limited to – equipment reliability programs, O&M KPI’s, equipment criticality identification, O&M processes and procedure creation, compliance tracking and reporting, day to day operational performance, daily/weekly/monthly reporting, etc. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities, and education required for entry into this job include the following:

  • 7+ years of work experience related to industrial operations, maintenance, sales, service, and/or project management Note:  A Master's degree will count as one year of experience towards the experience requirement.  A partial year of six months or more of experience will be rounded up to one full year of experience
  • Ability to travel overnight for up to a week at a time and on short notice – travel projected to be 10-20%.

 

Preferred Candidates will also possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities and experience:

  • Prior experience in contract negotiation, partnerships, project financing and budget development
  • Knowledge of renewable natural gas projects and energy markets
  • Knowledge of industry infrastructure
  • Ability to engage in project risk assessment, understanding of pro-forma and project metrics
  • Basic knowledge of relevant engineering theories and principles.
  • Prior experience managing contracted staff
  • Proficient in the use of a personal computer and related software. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective presentation skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to establish and nurture productive partnerships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven ability to influence partners and stakeholders who possess various degree of knowledge and understanding of RNG
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain resilient internal and external business relationships
  • Ability to ensure the efficient coordination of project work
  • Ability to develop business proposals and strategies

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:

Bachelor
