We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Join our dynamic team as a Power Contract Specialist and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of energy with innovative contract solutions!
This role is the first level in a two-part job series. This role supports the negotiation, administration, and implementation of both wholesale electric customer sale contracts with cooperatives and municipalities and non-utility generator (NUG) purchase contracts. Actively participates in the administration of large purchase and/or sale contracts. Involved in small to moderately complex customer negotiations with limited guidance from manager or senior staff. Serves as a representative in communications regarding agreements, rate design/development, and terms and conditions. Participates in the preparation of moderate to complex agreements. Provides specialized knowledge in regards to interpretation, guidance and support in the administration and enforcement of contractual matters and regulatory issues. Under limited guidance from senior staff, negotiates and develops complex amendments to accommodate unanticipated situations. Assists with the resolution of contractual and technical disagreements, including billing issues, between the Company and the other contractual party. Investigates and resolves billing issues and contractual discrepancies. Prepares complex cost estimates to determine customer charges and/or verify billing. Has working knowledge of the Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) and/or fuel markets in order to effectively negotiate new amendments or effective operate the existing agreements. Provides specialized knowledge in preparing responses to interrogatories, testimony, exhibits, and filings with regulatory commission involving contractual matters, rate design/development and terms and conditions. Provides input to management or senior level leadership in developing long range strategies and initiatives.
Supports the company’s renewable energy strategy in Virginia and North Carolina. Supports request for proposals (“RFP”) and other bid processes to procure additional renewable generation to meet future projected renewable requirements for the regulated portfolio. Actively involved in the negotiation, origination, and implementation of “ringfenced” renewable generation contracts with large commercial and industrial customers to meet individual customer renewable energy goals.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
Power Contract Specialist:
• A minimum of 3 years of commercial negotiation, contract management, energy trading, market trading or other similar experience;
• Applies specialized working knowledge and analytical methods in the following areas:
• NUG purchase contracts and wholesale customer agreements;
• PJM operating and market rules in order to effectively negotiate and maximize contract value on behalf of customers;
• Accounting, finance, and utility rate design principles;
• Regulatory framework in Virginia and North Carolina;
• Skills: advanced written and verbal communication (including technical writing); organization and project management skills; advanced negotiation skills; computer skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret complex energy documents and regulations. Strong negotiation skills, ability to interact with a variety of personnel, internal and external to the organization, and to represent the Company's position to regulatory boards, town and city officials, or board members.
• Demonstrated ability to work under limited supervision; interpret and apply complex policies and procedures; excellent analytical and statistical skills with the ability to explain complex terms and data; creative and abstract thinking.
Senior Power Contract Specialist:
• A minimum of 5 years commercial negotiation, contract management, energy trading, market trading or other similar experience
• Electric generation project development and energy markets generally acquired through related work experience
• Extensive experience drafting and reviewing Legal documents such as contracts, amendments, and Regulatory Filings.
• PJM operating and market rules in order to effectively negotiate and maximize contract value on behalf of customers
• Accounting, finance, and utility rate design principles
• Regulatory framework in Virginia and North Carolina
• A minimum of 5 years commercial negotiation, contract management, energy trading, market trading or other similar experience is required. Skills: advanced written and verbal communication (including technical writing); organization and project management skills; advanced negotiation skills; computer skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret and draft complex energy documents and regulations.
• Strong negotiation skills, ability to interact with a variety of personnel, internal and external to the organization, and to represent the Company's position to regulatory boards, or board members.
• Provides inputs and proposes solutions to management in developing long range strategies and initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently; interpret and apply complex policies and procedures; excellent analytical and statistical skills with the ability to explain complex terms and data; creative and abstract thinking; project leadership.

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:
