Job Summary

This role can be located in our Richmond, VA offices or Dinwiddie County location. The new high voltage test laboratory will be located in Dinwiddie County, VA and the successful candidate will be expected to be on-site.

The Electric Power industry is facing significant challenges and changes which will require utilities to be more proactive in how they technically navigate the future.  New technologies being connected to the electric grid will fundamentally change the physical characteristics and behaviors of the electric grid.  This will in turn require additional new equipment and technologies in Dominion Energy substations, lines, and circuits to ensure successful, reliable, and efficient grid operations during ever changing grid conditions, threats, and events.

Dominion Energy’s Power Delivery Group is constructing a new 20,000 square foot extra-high voltage test laboratory to deliver and support the electric grid of the future.  This new in-door laboratory along with a new technical support facility is being constructed on Dominion Energy’s Locks Campus in Dinwiddie County, Virginia (near Richmond) with a planned completion by early 2024.  This new facility, which will be capable of testing power system equipment rated up to 500 kV AC or DC, will serve to technically affirm investment decisions, facilitate development of new technology, and support reliable operations for many years to come.  This new capability will accelerate innovation at Dominion Energy through the testing and evaluation of new technologies, improve reliability by providing thorough and immediate root cause analyses and improved asset management, enable validation of equipment standards and specifications, and allow a new ability to test and evaluate equipment hardware, firmware, and software within an energized environment prior to deploying onto the power grid.  Furthermore, this new facility will fundamentally improve Dominion Energy’s ability to attract, train, and develop our future workforce while also supporting universities, educational institutes, and other partners
