Lead Accountant/Senior Accountant (Technical Accounting)

Job Summary

Dominion Energy’s Accounting Research Department is looking for a Lead Accountant or Senior Accountant. There is one position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidates’ education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. At the time of application, candidates must indicate the levels they want to be considered for.

This role will lead technical accounting support and research for various Dominion Energy and Dominion Energy subsidiary segments as well as Corporate functions.  Duties include:

•Conduct complex assignments and analysis involving technical accounting projects.
•Develop and document company position on complex transactions/new accounting guidance and communicating to senior management, standard-setting and/or regulatory organizations. 
•Coordinate implementation of new accounting and financial reporting requirements to ensure consistent application throughout the Company
•Lead project teams on specific accounting and internal control issues relevant to new products/projects/accounting; significant business transactions and organizational events; system conversions, upgrades and enhancements.
•Provide leadership including functional advice, accounting guidelines and training across the Company.
•Independently and effectively interact with internal and external customers.
•Identify inconsistencies and problems and work to resolve them.  Ensure appropriate controls are applied.
•Work with external auditors on various accounting projects.
•Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

This role is a highly visible position with excellent growth potential. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Lead Accountant: 7+ years of general accounting experience or 5+ years of experience working in public accounting.  (Note:  A Master's degree can count toward one year of experience. Six months of experience will be rounded up to one year of experience).

Senior Accountant:  5+ years of general accounting experience or 4+ years of experience working in public accounting.  (Note:  A Master's degree can count toward one year of experience.  Six months of experience will be rounded up to one year of experience).

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:


--Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. General Accounting Principles (GAAP), practices and procedures (Lead Accountant Level)

--Broad knowledge of U.S. General Accounting Principles (GAAP), practices and procedures (Senior Accountant Level)

-Ability to research complex issues, formulate and develop recommendations to management.

-Excellent communication (written and oral), interpersonal and customer service skills
-Excellent analytical skills
-Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task
-Demonstrated leadership and decision making skills
-Excellent computer skills including Excel

-Ability to work independently and as a member of a team


Preferred:  Certified Public Accountant Certification



Education Requirements

Education Level: Preferred: Bachelors degree in Accounting is strongly preferred
