Job Summary
Electric Transmission Field Operations is seeking a System Protection Field Engineer for a summer 2025 internship in Richmond, VA. This position will allow you to work closely with system protection technicians in the field and learn how to install, commission, and maintain protective relay and communications systems in substations. These systems are essential for the reliable and secure operation of the power grid, and you will gain valuable real-world experience by engaging in hands-on activities and troubleshooting. You will also have the chance to interact with other professionals in the field and network with them. This internship will be a great way to enhance your skills and knowledge in system protection and power systems.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
- Basic knowledge of engineering concepts, fundamentals, and theory
- Oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing)
- Effective decision-making skills
- Computer skills and application of software programs
- Analytical and abstract thinking skills
- Problem solving skills
- Ability to learn to apply engineering theories and concepts to complex problems
- Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices
- Ability to develop effective planning, project and organization skills
- Ability to develop project management skills and to handle multiple tasks
- Ability to work within a team environment
Education Requirements
Candidate must be a full-time student,
- majoring in ABET accredited Electrical Engineering or related program OR
- majoring in ABET accredited Preparation Engineering Program with intentions to transfer to an ABET 4 year program.
- With a graduation date of Spring 2026 or later
- Must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher.
