Job Summary

Dominion Energy is excited to offer an opportunity for a 2026 Summer Intern to perform Engineer tasks supporting the deployment and operation of Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS). This role represents an opportunity to gain hands-on experience and contribute to the deployment and operations of Dominion Energy’s DERMS platform. Through this role, the successful candidate will support the development of novel strategies for integrating, aggregating and dispatching distributed energy resources (DERs). This role will also support technical and economic analysis of different DERMS control and optimization strategies, and configure virtual power plants (VPPs) on the DERMS platform.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Experience with power system modeling and knowledge with use of distribution power system analysis and power flow software such as CYME, Synergi Electric, OpenDSS, etc.

  • Firm understanding of distribution systems and challenges with integrating DER systems

  • Experience writing scripts, macros, or code to develop tools to automate work processes including analysis software and programming languages such as Python, C/C++, Tableau, PowerBI, etc.

  • Capacity to support research and development efforts aimed at innovating next-generation algorithms

  • Experience with handling and interpreting large datasets effectively

  • Effective communication skills (oral and written) and interpersonal skills; math and technical aptitude

  • Effectively interact and work in a team environment; attention to detail; understand and apply workflow processes

Education Requirements

  • Must have earned a bachelor’s degree in an engineering field and be accepted to and working on a master’s or Ph.D. degree in engineering (preferred fields include electrical engineering) from an ABET accredited Engineering program at a four year or post-graduate college or university.

  • Must have a 2.5 GPA
