Generation Project Manager

Job Summary

Manages or supports specific phases of major projects including business development support, site development, permitting support (air, water, state, local, etc...), scope development, major contract negotiations (equipment, engineering or EPC), engineering, procurement, and construction contracts, construction activities, commissioning and transition to commercial operation. Manages all phases of smaller improvement projects including permitting, contract negotiations, engineering contracts, construction contracts, construction activities and commissioning. Supports development and management of specific portions of major projects budget and schedule. Develops and manages overall project budget and schedule for smaller projects. Projects ranging in size from major complex projects to smaller improvement projects in existing generating facilities. It is envisioned that this primary responsibility of this role will be supporting the Coal Ash landfill/recycling projects, which may last up to 15 years in duration.  The position will support the following 4 sites:  Bremo, Chesapeake Energy Center, Chesterfield, and Possum Point power stations.  Other major complex projects may include new generating facilities (coal, combined cycle and nuclear), environmental projects (cooling towers, wet or dry scrubbers, baghouse and SCR) and nuclear modifications (reactor head or steam generator replacement). Smaller projects in existing facilities may include system upgrades, improvements associated with new regulations, boiler refurbishments or any other projects associated with maintaining or improving existing generating facilities. Multiple complex projects including turbine uprates. Typically reports to Director, Project Director or Manager – Generation Projects


- Analyze and track the performance of a Centralized Water Treatment System at each site by utilizing Average flowrate, Average constituent reduction, enhanced media effectiveness, capacity and breakthrough, actual volume of water discharged to the tanks vs projected volume
- Schedule tank discharges based on sampling needs and available storage capacity in the tanks
- Generate and submit weekly reports required by DEQ to DEES, as well as work closely with DE Environmental group to ensure permitting issues are resolved and tracked
- Track monthly volume of water discharged and compare to monthly invoices
- Review and approve tank data packages for discharge
- Track the influent trend of the key (Selenium, Arsenic, Thallium, etc) influent constituents.
- Participate is site safety Audits to ensure compliance
- Participate in Environmental walk-downs to ensure compliance
- Manage the water treatment systems at each site as the overall Program Manager.  Will be point of contact of all technical issues
- Manage Water Treatment vendor contracts

- Update monthly cash flows to Financial Advisor and review spending within SAP and pre-approve invoices
- Develop RFPs as needed including scheduling interviews with potential bidders and reviewing specimen contract documents.  Work closely with Supply Chain, Legal and PG to finalize
- Work within and create e-rooms for new projects.
- Visit sites on periodic basis and work as a Field Construction Manager as needed
- Work with scheduler to assist with overall schedule for permitting as well as specific activities
- Help to interview contractors

- Work with Dominion Station PM and Contractor when Change Orders are required
- Participate with internal audits.
- Work with the contractor project site management, Dominion Station PM, onsite Engineer/CQA Firm, and contractor to discuss schedule, final equipment documentation, and other issues
- Work with Engineer/CQA firm to help resolve disagreements in the field

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The company is actively seeking United States military veterans and service members who meet the qualifications outlined below.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of project managment experience including with coal ash projects and a bachelors degree.
  • Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in project management, relevant technologies, and leadership in the assigned project areas. 
  • Strong team building skills, demonstrated skill and ability in effectively leading teams to achieve project goals and milestones. 
  • Effective negotiation skills. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including interpersonal, facilitation, and presentation capabilities. 
  • Ability to develop, manage and monitor project performance to ensure results meet project requirements and schedules. 
  • Ability to coordinate the resolution of technical problems and implement changes. 
  • Ability to work and develop rapport with all levels of management and staff. 
  • Ability to represent the project and the company in public forums.
  • Able to demonstrate detailed knowledge of water treatment systems using various technologies, must demonstrate the knowledge and ability to review engineering specifications related to landfills and recycling of coal ash and have the ability to make recommendations.

Education Level: Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Bachelor , Other Education: Business, Engineering
