Financial Analyst - Electric Distribution (Richmond, VA)

Job Summary

This role supports development and maintenance of company's consolidated budget/forecast as well as corporate strategy. Assists in development and monitoring of corporate strategy. Supports budget development and consolidation process to ensure timeliness and financial accuracy. Provides analysis and presentation preparation in support of investment decisions going before Investment Review Committee. Supports review, update and communication of cost of capital utilized for business and investment decisions. Assists in identification, screening and analysis of potential merger and acquisition opportunities. Supports efforts to respond to requests for special studies on competitors, industry trends, etc.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience


2+ years of related experience is required (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications; A master’s degree can count as one year experience)

  • Supports development and maintenance of Electric Distribution budget and financial forecast  
  • Work closely with Distribution leadership and Financial Management team to define and develop operational and financial reporting and analysis including, but not limited to: 
    • Preparing, analyzing, and presenting financial case studies for business processes
    • Developing cost/benefit analysis, models, programs, and systems to support the development of business strategies and ensure alignment with corporate financial goals
    • Developing programs and implement automated methods and systems to track work performance and efficiencies
  • Identify, analyze, and recommend work and business process improvements including but not limited to data collection, reporting, and advanced analysis
  • Perform assignments designed to develop work knowledge, skills, and abilities requiring application of policies, procedures, techniques, and other criteria in carrying out all aspects of the job  
  • Perform varied analyses, routine work assignments, and other duties as requested or assigned
  • Continue to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities to reach a higher level of proficiency and increased work complexity


The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job include the following:

  • Knowledge and/or experience relating to financial management and analysis, utility and/or relevant industry, accounting standards and practice
  • Project Management Experience is preferred
  • Skills: Excellent leadership, organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication.
  • Teaming, analytical and customer focus skills.
  • Some expertise in consolidated financial planning and analysis, capital allocation, project financial analysis
  • MandA analysis, due diligence process, understanding of accounting, tax and financing principles
  • Knowledge of Excel and Powerpoint
  • Aptitude for continuous learning
