Environmental Specialist III

Job Summary

This exciting role in our Environmental group at Dominion Energy will perform the duties:  
 

  • Independently develops, implements, coordinates, and oversees complex water quality programs and projects which relate to company compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Analyzes complex environmental data, from monitoring sites in the system, and provides assessment reports of potential problem areas that have probable impact to the company.
  • Writes and edits detailed scientific reports, suitable for submission to regulatory agencies, that evaluate long-term results from various system-wide quality programs.
  • Coordinates complex environmental permitting activities for company facilities and operations.
  • Provides regulatory and scientific expertise, advice, guidance, and interpretation to company personnel which ensures or improves compliance with all water quality regulations at company facilities.
  • Prepares and submits correspondence, reports, and testimonies to environmental regulatory agencies.
  • Represents company before regulatory agencies, industry groups, and the public on environmental issues.
  • Reads, analyzes, and interprets new and existing regulations.
  • Participates in developing new regulations from proposal to promulgation.
  • Develops and conducts environmental compliance training. Inspects and advises on operations, construction, procedures, records, and training, to ensure compliance with environmental requirements prescribed in laws, regulations, company policies, and company procedures.
  • Uses electronic databases to analyze and monitor company compliance with regulatory requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

At least 5-7 years directly related experience (Note:  A Master's degree will count as one year of experience.  A partial year of six months or more will be rounded up to one year).


Specific knowledge, skills, abilities and experience include:
 

  • Prefer individuals with multistate permitting and compliance experience and subject matter expertise in the areas of NPDES (individual and general permits including construction and operational stormwater permits), surface and groundwater withdrawal, and wetlands (Section 404);
  • Logic and reasoning skills, to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternatives, conclusions, or approaches;
  • Respectful assertiveness, to ensure environmental compliance requirements are met by others, while considering the spirit and letter of the law;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interface with internal stakeholders effectively;
  • Ability to give full attention to others, to take time understanding the points being made, and to ask questions;
  • Ability to influence others;
  • Ability to embrace collaborative problem solving;
  • Ability to communicate appropriately for audience needs;
  • Ability to share information and to facilitate open idea exchange;
  • Ability to understand implications of new information;

  • Ability to remain professional while delivering high-quality, reliable, environmental services to customers.


The company is actively seeking United States military veterans and service members who meet the qualifications outlined above.

  • Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience are encouraged to apply.
