Job Summary

Dominion Energy is seeking an experienced Environmental Specialist III to join its team.  This position has responsibility for environmental compliance, environmental stewardship, and oversight of Dominion Energy’s Greenhouse Gas and Voluntary Carbon / Methane Reduction programs, working under the direction of the Supervisor, Corporate Air Programs.  The Environmental Specialist III also provides technical direction and oversight to junior staff and contractors/ consultants.  The primary focus is air, but work may involve other environmental media and training as assigned.  Technical complexity of work is medium to high.   Job duties include:

  • Provides expert advice, guidance, and interpretations regarding regulatory and voluntary greenhouse gas (GHG), carbon, and methane reduction requirements, initiatives, and commitments including Dominion Energy’s Net Zero commitment.
  • Reads, analyzes, and interprets new and existing GHG programs, regulations, etc.
  • Engages with peer utilities and industry groups to benchmark on voluntary carbon and methane reduction initiatives, calculation methodologies, and protocols.
  • High level understanding of air emissions inventories, operational parametric monitoring, recordkeeping and reporting requirements to support corporate-wide Greenhouse Gas reporting and metrics. 
  • Writes and edits detailed scientific reports, suitable for both submission to regulatory agencies and supporting voluntary corporate reporting.
  • Represents Company before regulatory agencies, industry groups, and internal executive leadership
  • Use of electronic databases to analyze and monitor company compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Adherence to Dominion Energy safety rules and safety performance expectations.
  • Adherence to Dominion Energy environmental policies, guidance, and work practices.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with regulatory and/or voluntary Greenhouse Gas reporting programs, including all associated data management, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements.
  • Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will count a year towards the requirements. 

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Extremely knowledgeable or expert level understanding of the Clean Air Act and Mandatory Greenhouse Gas Reporting program.
  • Posses ability to quantitatively analyze information and compile reports. 
  • Uses strong mathematical skills to provide environmental project guidance.
  • Proven ability to diplomatically and assertively handle challenging situations.
  • Highly skilled at handling multiple programs and deadlines.
  • Strong listening and critical thinking skills.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Proven team building skills, communication skills (spoken and written), and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of people internal and external to the organization.
  • Proven ability to work in a geographically diverse team environment.
  • Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined above.

Education Level:

BS or MS in physical science, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, environmental science or equivalent education, or experience based on career responsibilities.
