Job Summary

Dominion Energy is looking for a Engineering Technical Specialist III to join our team in Richmond, VA. This individual will serve as technical subject matter expert on steam turbines, combustion turbines, generators and exciters.

 

Responsible for project management activities to include but not limited to:

  • Manages overhauls on steam turbines, combustion turbines, and generators, and steam turbine valves, which includes planning to completion of the work.  
  • Manage & develop budgets, expenditures, schedule, and scheduling of resources and equipment;
  • Identifies key barriers and issues, researches and evaluates more complex issues and develops sound business solutions to achieve desired results with engineering input.  
  • Manages and conducts on-site inspections of work performed to ensure compliance to all state, federal and company regulations and ensures safe work environment.  
  • Assesses situations and determines when escalated issues should be elevated to management for resolution.  
  • Provides technical and field support to plants during major outages and overhauls to ensure work is performed according to policy, procedures, and consistent standards.  
  • Inspects, audits, and documents activities for Quality assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) needs and takes appropriate action to successfully resolve issues.  
  • Responsible for oversight of scoping, planning, executing, and closing out of the outage, and any testing required.  
  • Responsible for scheduling and pre-outage planning activities including but not limited to, researching prior outages, reports, and milestones; develops list of inspections and activities to be completed
  • Develops list of lessons learned from current and prior outages for inclusion in future outages, development of outage plan and testing methods, develops and manages budget of specific job work, and collaborates with engineering and outage management to ensure outage plans and budgets are met. 
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

 

Engineering Technical Specialist III:

  • 5-7 years of steam turbine or gas turbine operation and maintenance experience.  

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for Both Levels:

  • Must possess a strong safety and environmental culture utilizing human performance defenses.  
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills in person, by phone and in writing.
  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to influence, coach and train others
  • Must be able to move freely to access all areas of the plant for inspections.  
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team member. 
  • Must be able to manage contracts and contractors
  • Must have strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and scheduling skills
  • Must have time management and organization skills.  
  • Must have strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point, Projects, SAP, P6, laser alignment software, and vibration software or equivalent.
  • Must have technical knowledge and demonstrated skills to do detailed inspections
  • Must be able to read and interpret complex regulations and assess impact to company operations.
  • Must have strong knowledge and skills or capable of learning necessary skills in all areas of maintenance and operation on steam turbines, combustion turbines, generators, exciters, etc.  
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability of planning, scheduling, executing, and close out of overhauls.  
  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to assess situations and develop sound business solutions to successfully resolve all issues that arise through outage execution.  

 

The company is actively seeking United States military veterans and service members who meet the qualifications outlined below. Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6 plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined (above / below).

Education Requirements

Education Level: Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred degree: Bachelor degree

 

In order to be a titled Engineering Technical Specialist, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  • 4-year Engineering Technology degree or 4-year degree in Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or
  • 4-year degree in Physics, Math, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Engineering or other technical related discipline; or
  • 4-year non-technical degree and post-graduate degree in Engineering Technology or Engineering (not ABET-accredited); or
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred degree
