We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary

Dominion’s Electric Transmission System Operations Center Engineering department was established to provide engineering support for the reliable control and operation of the Company's transmission system. The team’s responsibilities encompass many applications used by operations personnel to make real-time and offline decisions that affect the Bulk Electric System such as: SCADA applications, alarm management applications, various displays and visualization tools and network applications. The primary responsibilities for this role will include:

 

  • Perform modeling for Dominion’s transmission system such as SCADA modeling and configurations, network topology, equipment ratings and parameter impedances as well as the maintenance of various operator displays
  • Utilize the Primate Technologies control room visualization software.
  • Coordinate with and provide technical assistance to various engineering, operations and field teams and PJM to fully maintain the EMS model
  • Support the development of tools to improve situational awareness in the operations control room
  • Participate in various company teams and industry-level organizations to enhance Electric Transmission’s system operations performance

 

In general, an Engineer at this level provides engineering support in designated company area, or specific engineering discipline. Performs and/or reviews engineering calculations, analysis, research and design. Provides cost analysis as needed and develops recommendation based on calculations (e.g. cost for equipment upgrade) for management review. Distinguished from Engineer I by increased complexity in application of engineering skills required. Under direction of supervisor or work leader, exercises independence in evaluating, selecting and applying standard or well-defined engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Uses independent judgment in prioritizing and making moderately complex adaptations and modifications. Assignments have clear and specified objectives and require investigation of a limited number of variables.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

 

  • 2+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • Basic understanding of AC/DC fundamentals and three-phase power systems
  • Knowledge of NERC and PJM policies and procedures is desired
  • Experience with System Protection & Controls is desired
  • Experience with Energy Management Systems such as GE/ALSTOM e-terra platform is highly desired
  • Equally effective working independently or in a team environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including technical writing
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to independently plan and organize work assignments
  • Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems
  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices

 

 

 

Education Requirements

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA:  For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met:  

Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or   

Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or   

Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or   

Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
