Job Summary

Dominion Energy is installing 1,000MWac of solar generating capacity per year. The Solar Project Construction group manages the execution of solar projects from 1MW to 150+MW through Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC) contracts. The group is organized into several sequential teams; Development, Diligence, Pre-Construction, Execution, and Close-Out. Three Project Engineers are needed, and will be assigned to Execution teams, which oversee daily contractor activities during construction of new solar projects. These Project Engineers will work on teams lead by Construction Project Managers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supporting the solar project management team by managing specific portions of the project, particularly technical issues.
  • Coordination with internal stakeholders including Site Owner’s Representatives, Operations, Project Controls, Technical Services, Business Development, Tax, Real Estate, Environmental, Safety, and Supply Chain.
  • Coordination with external stakeholders, including counterparts in the EPC’s organization, permitting agencies, and Owners Engineers.
  • Working with a cross-functional team that includes project managers, engineers, permitting specialists, construction oversight personnel, environmental compliance coordinators, contracts and financial analysts, real estate analysts, safety specialists, and operations personnel.
  • Participating in status update meetings with EPC contractors.
  • Overseeing and monitoring construction progress, ensuring compliance with EPC contract requirements, technical specifications, and permitting requirements.
  • Participating in site walks with Environmental Compliance Coordinators to monitor permit compliance.
  • Managing project RFI and NCR logs.
  • Overseeing plant commissioning processes and participating in punchlist/turnover walkdowns with Solar Operations.
  • Overseeing punch list completion, facilitating communication with operations, and reviewing contractor deliverables.

Job Responsibilities Continued

  • Preparing weekly reporting for internal project stakeholders.
  • Reviewing EPC deliverables, including specifications, performance test reports, and as-built design drawings for completeness and contract compliance.
  • Reviewing third party reports, usually environmental inspection reports, to monitor EPC performance, and providing recommendations to the EPC.
  • Managing turnover documentation process at key project milestones.
  • Reviewing and providing technical input on contract Change Orders, Contractor Notices, Milestone Completion Certificates, and other commercial documents.
  • Collaborating with peer Project Engineers to compare processes, procedures, and issues to ensure consistency across the project portfolio.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  • Will report to a Manager – Construction Projects and will be assigned to a team led by a Construction Project Manager. Three positions are available, and they will be assigned to an active construction team. Expect 75%+ travel via a temporary assignment on one or more solar project sites in Virginia.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Engineer I- 0-2 years of relevant engineering experience 

  • Engineer II - Minimum 3 years of relevant engineering experience

  • Engineer III - Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience
    • Detailed technical knowledge of renewable power generation, large power plant systems/equipment/operations, power distribution/transmission systems, complex construction projects, and/or Virginia E&S/stormwater regulations preferred.
    • Technical skills, including the ability to read and prepare technical specifications and drawings. Some station and engineering experience preferred
    • Schedule and cost management experience preferred
    • Strong communication and integration skills
    • Ability to build relationships and work in a team environment
    • Ability to analyze technical information and make recommendations to project management team
    • Valid drivers license in order to operate a company vehicle
    • Demonstrated computer skills, including Microsoft Office products, SAP products, Adobe products, Bluebeam, scheduling software

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: 
 
For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met: 
 
Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or 

Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or 

Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

For Nuclear purposes only:  ANSI 3.1-2014, Section 4.6.1 (must be documented on form HR-AA-101)

Education:  Baccalaureate degree in Engineering or related science (Physics, Chemistry, Math, Engineering Technology acceptable if all other pieces of the third prong of the Required Engineering Criteria listed in KSA section are met).

Minimum Experience for the position:

Related experience which shall include 2 yrs; Nuclear power plant experience to include 1 yr.

Note:  Years of experience in job summary exceed the ANSI requirement for related experience (3+  years required for Engineer II).
