Job Summary

 

There is one position available that will be filled at either the Engineer II or Engineer III level, commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

The candidate will be part of a team that provides technical support for Dominion Energy’s Electric Transmission Organization.   This position is specifically responsible for supporting asset management initiatives to design, specify, operate, maintain, and upgrade large substation equipment such as Power Transformers, Breakers, GIS, FACTS Devices, Instrument Transforms, etc. Candidate should have strong electrical engineering background.  Candidate will develop through the fundamental of engineering principles and practices that will enable the successful candidate to track in either an engineering or operational career series.


Job Activities

•    Develop and document engineering and design requirements relating to the application of substation equipment.
•    Develop and document engineering and design requirements for substation specifications related to the purchase of substation equipment and related turn-key substation projects.
•    Develop an understanding of company procurement processes and procedures and serve as the business unit representative during the purchase of assigned substation equipment. 
•    Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in support of operational needs and project initiatives. 
•    Daily support of emerging issues with the field organizations related to assigned substation equipment.
•    Develop training for field organizations on how to maintain and respond to system events relating to substation equipment.
•    Maintain and improve asset health assessment programs through automation of data.
•    Assist in root cause analysis of suspect/failed components. Incorporate root cause analysis into designs and specifications.
•    Engage with industry suppliers and manufacturers (plant/factory visits, substation visits).
•    Engage in industry forums (IEEE, SEE, IEC, etc.).
•    Participate in trade and industry organizations and benchmarking activities.
•    Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

 

Engineer III: Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6 plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below.

 

Engineer II:  Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

 

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences required for entry into this job include the following:

 

A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications; A master’s degree can count as one year experience.

 

•   Engineer II: 3+ years of relevant engineering experience


•   Engineer III: 5+ years of relevant engineering experience;


•    Full knowledge of engineering theories and principles;
•    Skilled in use of advanced techniques and modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices of the field and related sciences and disciplines;
•    Strong leadership skills with proven ability to serve as team project lead;
•    Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing);
•    Strong personal computer skills;
•    Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems;
•    Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices;
•    In depth knowledge of various computer applications, with the ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations using applicable software programs (e.g. Matlab, Excel, etc.);
•    Equally effective working independently or in team environment;
•    Proven decision making skills;
•    Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks;
•    Strong planning, organizational and project

Preferred Disciplines: Electrical Engineering

 

REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: 

 

For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met: 


Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited engineering program based on the year that the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or 


Possess a 4-year engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or 


Possess a 4-year engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program and a postgraduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or 


Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same engineering discipline is ABET accredited based on the year the engineering program was accredited by ABET, or 


Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
