We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary

There is one position available within Power Generation’s Regulatory Compliance team which will be filled at the level commensurate with the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience. 

Power Generation Regulatory Compliance is seeking an Engineer II/III with strong Electrical Power Systems background to support Dominion Energy’s synchronous and inverter-based (non-nuclear) Power Generation fleet for compliance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and regional reliability organization regulations and policies. This compliance support includes but is not limited to the following functions:

 

  • Evaluate generating facility Protection System settings, voltage regulating controls and limit functions, and equipment capabilities to verify electrical coordination.
  • Evaluate frequency, voltage, and volts per hertz relaying or control system protection settings to ensure generating resources remain connected during defined frequency and voltage excursions.
  • Coordinate field testing, such as Real and Reactive Power testing, with generating facilities.
  • Ensure the accuracy of generator gross and net Real and Reactive Power capability.
  • Review internal and external engineering reports for technical accuracy and adherence to compliance requirements, including verifying calculations, engineering methods, and compliance approaches.
  • Develop engineering compliance reports.
  • Manage assigned Power Generation compliance programs for Operations and Planning (O&P) NERC Reliability Standards, including developing and maintaining program documents and retaining evidence for audit readiness.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

 

Engineer II: Minimum of 3 years of directly related work experience and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering required.

Engineer III: Minimum of 5 years of directly related work experience and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering required.

 

  • Full knowledge of engineering concepts, fundamentals, and theory.
  • General knowledge of NERC Compliance Requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of various computer applications, e.g., Matlab, Excel, with the ability to manipulate personal computer applications and perform engineering calculations.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training on NERC Reliability Standards and Power Generation’s internal compliance programs.
  • Ability to read and comprehend electrical one-line, three-line, elementary, and logic diagrams.
  • Leadership skills with proven ability to serve as a team project lead.
  • Oral and written communication skills (including technical writing).
  • Proven decision-making skills.
  • Planning, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both individually as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations, and practices.
  • Previous experience in the development/calculation of protective relay settings and/or protective relay testing preferred.
  • Previous experience with control systems, e.g., excitation, turbine/governor, Power Plant Controller (PPC), preferred.


An Engineering PhD can be substituted for up to 5 years' experience based on research engineering work on directly related projects approved by executive leadership. 


REQUIRED ENGINEERING CRITERIA: 
 
For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met: 
 
Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or 

Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or 

Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
