We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary
Dominion Energy Virginia's Electric Transmission (ET) System Operations Center (SOC) is seeking a motivated Engineer or Engineering Technical Specialist to support the Company's evolving Transmission grid. If hired, you will play a crucial role in supporting System Operations staff to ensure the smooth operation of our infrastructure on the Dominion Energy Bulk Electric System by:
- Collaborating with the Operations team and other departments to address and resolve inquiries related to real-time shift operations
- Assisting with integrating synchrophasors into real-time system operations by working with Dominion Energy's Wide Area Measurement System (WAMS) to identify new operational practices, policies, and procedures
- Assisting with operating guidance for transmission system protection schemes, operational policies, and procedures
- Creating automated tools to enhance shift operations and improve efficiencies
- Accessing and manipulating databases where operational process data is stored
- Using advanced computer programming skills to advance and streamline tools contributing to the overall success of the team
- Performing difficult and complex work requiring thorough knowledge of the subject matter
- Planning and conducting work requiring independent judgment
This position will be filled at the appropriate level in the series based on candidate's qualifications and experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
- 0-2+ years of relevant experience for Associate Engineer or Engineering Technical Specialist I
- 2+ years of relevant experience for Engineer or Engineering Technical Specialist II
- 5+ years of relevant experience for Senior Engineer or Engineering Technical Specialist III
- 8+ years of relevant experience for Staff Engineer
- Prior work experience as a transmission relay settings or circuit calculations engineer
- Understanding of the principles of transmission relay protection and experience with SEL relays
- Interest in and strong understanding of transmission system protection fundamentals
- Knowledge of inverter-based systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of electric power distribution equipment and electric/electronic instrumentation
- Understanding of Power System Generation, Operations, and Control
- Deep understanding of AC and DC fundamentals, including three-phase power systems
- Programming experience in Python, C++, Java, or C#
- Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems
- Strong planning, organizational and project management skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills (including technical writing)
- Equally effective working independently or in team environment
- Proven decision-making skills
- Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks
Preferred:
- Prior work experience in an electric utility power plant
- Prior work experience working in a Transmission System Operating Center
- Experience using TARA for Power Flow and N-1 Contingency analysis
- Experience using PSSE for power system model building and power flow analysis
- Experience using the PSSE API
- Ability to break down complex engineering concepts for mass consumption
Education Requirements
Engineer Education: Bachelor's in Engineering required. Must meet one of the following criteria:
- Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
- Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or
- Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math, or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or
- Hold or have previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.
Engineering Technical Specialist Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred. Must meet one of the following criteria:
- Possess a 4-year Engineering Technology degree or 4-year degree in Engineering (not ABET-accredited), or
- Possess a 4-year degree in Physics, Math, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Engineering, or other technical related discipline, or
- Possess a 4-year non-technical degree and a post-graduate degree in Engineering Technology or Engineering (not ABET-accredited), or
- Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the preferred degree.
