We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary

The Load Forecasting & Load Research team provides load forecasting, load research, and advanced data analytics support to multiple business units within the company to answer complex questions about energy usage by our customers. This position focus is primarily on providing analytical to our load research functionality as well as general analytical support as it relates to load. 

 

The successful applicant will collaborate closely with the Company’s Sales & Revenue team as well as the Dominion South Carolina Load Forecasting & Load Research team.

 

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Support business & data analytics-related activities, such as Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) analytics.
  • Assist in the development of the company’s annual load study.
  • Analyze electric load drivers such as datacenters, electric vehicles, rooftop solar, Demand Side Management (DSM), Energy Efficiency (EE), and electrification.
  • Maintain, enhance, and develop analytic tools, data processes and methods to analyze and present load research and forecast results.  
  • Develop a detailed understanding of, as well as participate in advancement of company’s forecasts and methodologies, including statistical end-use models and exogenous models such as building & transportation electrification, distributed energy resources (DER) and data centers.
  • Develop statistical models to build or improve forecasting for components including DER.
  • Establish strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholder groups and individuals throughout the company.
  • Understand and incorporate as necessary internal drivers/initiatives and externalities in the strategic planning process across all DE businesses.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Energy Market Analyst: 2-3 years experience analyzing complex data and solving data-driven problems and 1+ years of experience working with large datasets.

Sr. Energy Market Analyst: 5+ years related experience analyzing complex data and solving data-driven problems and 3+ years of experience working with large datasets.

  • Proficiency in one or more of the following languages: R, Python, and/or SAS.
  • Strong data science and extract/transform/load (ETL) skills, e.g., importing, cleaning, transforming, modeling, and visualizing data.
  • Working knowledge of relational database concepts and SQL.
  • Strong mathematical and statistical capabilities.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to both think analytically and solve complex problems.
  • Ability to process information quickly and effectively, and manage multiple tasks.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with forecasting and statistical analysis.
  • Experience working with electric smart meter/AMI data.
  • Knowledge of utility econometric forecasting.
  • Basic familiarity with electrical power system concepts.

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Bachelors or Masters degree preferred.

Preferred disciplines: Data science/Decision analytics, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Science, Business Administration.

Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered as one year towards the qualifications.
