Director - DEV Environmental

Job Summary

Directs operational, technical and professional staff responsible for providing environmental support and oversight for distribution, transmission and generation assets within Dominion Energy Virginia. Includes tracking, summarizing and assisting business groups with operational compliance and compliance plans. Oversees DEV environmental data management systems. Oversees development and delivery of internal reports and presentations including regulatory inspection reviews, event root-cause reports and operational environmental performance. Oversees compliance for air, water, oil and waste programs for distribution, transmission and generation. Directs programs designed to accomplish DEV environmental compliance business objectives and goals. Manages development and preparation of correspondence and technical reports, for submittal to environmental agencies. Manages staff in training, communication and implementation of applicable regulatory requirements. Directs activities of professional staff and consultants. Leads DEV Environmental as liaison between business units and DEES involving regulatory agencies in permits, regulations, and compliance. Serves as DEV Environmental representative on various industry organizations. Develops goals and budgets. Oversees development of process and procedures to support compliance with federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations. Champions process changes to improve compliance, improve efficiency, and control costs. Develops strategies that comply with new environmental requirements and minimize impacts to company in complying. Provides training and guidance to operating personnel, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and education required for entry into this job include the following:

10 -14+ years of relevant experience required.
Relevant experience can be in utility operations (distribution, transmission and/or generation), policy, compliance and/or environmental.
Prior supervisory experience required.
Demonstrated leadership abilities
Considerable experience in environmental operations, with emphasis on identifying and addressing related, environmental issues.
Expert knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting, and regulatory development processes, at state and federal levels.
Good working knowledge of energy-related, environmental issues.
Good working knowledge of environmental sustainability theory, practice, and policy. 
Demonstrated, thorough understanding of federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.
Considerable understanding of utility operations and business processes. 
Proven project management skills.
Well-developed negotiation skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills, to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Excellent technical writing, public speaking, and communication skills.
Ability to address environmental concerns proactively. 
Ability to develop effective strategies.
Ability to influence regulatory bodies, to support permitting strategies.
Ability to interpret and communicate technical information and convey it to internal staff and external stakeholders.

Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or more rounds to one full year of qualifications.

• Military service members and veterans with a rank of E-5 or higher plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined.

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: 

Bachelor

Preferred Disciplines:
Utility operations (distribution, transmission and/or generation) 
Environmental Science 
Public Relations
Engineering 
Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s) listed above.
