Job Summary

Develops and executes a best-in-class community engagement strategy across the company’s national footprint to support the company’s business objectives and the communities that we serve. Engages the full range of diverse communities within our footprint, working closely with business organizations, civic groups, non-profit organizations and other community stakeholders.

Serves on an as needed basis as a spokesperson on the company’s initiatives in the community. Works with the human resources, workforce, supply chain, and diversity and inclusion teams to inform and engage the communities we serve in the opportunities that the company offers for employees and suppliers to meet the company’s business needs while investing in the communities we serve.

Works closely with the corporate communications team to inform and develop content across platforms on the company’s community engagement. Leverage the company’s community engagement to support the company’s vision and values. Perform other duties as requested or assigned. Establishes, maintains and directs favorable relationships with state and local government officials, community leaders, and business leaders within the designated region. May manage individuals who are lobbying on behalf of the company.

Develops and implements strategic tactics to achieve corporate government relations goals. Directs development of "grass roots" programs for all levels of government throughout service area. Directs and guides staff. Ensures continuing promotion and delivery of a positive company image, positive customer relations, and positive client relations. Measures performance through consumer attitude surveys, favorable media exposure, and improved regulatory climate. Analyzes short and long-term political and economic trends.

Directs large-scale public and employee event programs. Directs development of communication programs, to educate groups on maximum efficiency in natural gas and/or electric usage, and its impact on consumers, the environment, and society. Reviews and determines effectiveness of community, consumer, and educational affairs programs.

Develops strategic approach to make programmatic improvements and implements corrective actions to help influence behaviors and attitudes. Oversees program to enumerate market strengths and services, to assist in business retention, expansion, and attraction. Oversees state, economic development, outreach effort, encouraging expansion of existing or new construction facilities. Partners closely with internal areas, to provide support to the operating end of Dominion Energy. 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

10-14+ years of related experience working with government and community officials, local business leaders, public policy or other energy fields.

Specific knowledge, skills, abilities and experience include:

 

  • Experience in negotiation, consensus building, policy writing, policy analysis, and public speaking;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong persuasive skills;
  • Thorough, extensive knowledge of educational, consumer, and community affairs programs;
  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of legislative and/or regulatory processes, rules, and protocol of local government;
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of company operations, goals, and objectives;
  • Demonstrated skill in managing and leading others;
  • Relationship-building skills;
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and persuasion skills;
  • Proficient personal computer skills;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with leaders and representatives of state and local governments, community leaders, and business leaders within the locality;
  • Ability to develop and implement strategies that accomplish organizational goals and objectives;
  • Ability to analyze social, economic, and political events, and assess their impact on the company;
  • Ability to forecast needs and initiate plans and programs to enhance company image;
  • Ability to achieve results and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to manage multiple activities, resources and time;
  • Ability to partner with, and have complete understanding of, internal company operations;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Excellent decision-making skills.

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Bachelor

Preferred Disciplines:  Communications, Political Science, Public Policy & Administration
