We offer a hybrid 3-2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Military service members and veterans with ranks from E5-E9, W1-CW5, or O3-O6, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined below will be considered for this opportunity.

Job Summary

The Controls Specialist is responsible for supporting cost control, forecasting, budgeting, reporting, and financial analysis for assigned capital projects within the Project Construction Thermal Portfolio. This role partners with project managers, contractors, vendors, and internal business groups to monitor project performance, identify risks and variances, support month-end close activities, and provide timely, accurate information to management for decision-making.

 

  • Develop, maintain, and analyze project forecasts, cash flows, budgets, and cost reports for assigned capital projects.
  • Monitor actual costs, commitments, schedule activity, and contractor performance to identify trends, variances, and forecast risks.
  • Review contracts, purchase orders, change orders, invoices, requisitions, and payment requests for proper scope, documentation and cost impact.
  • Support month-end close by validating costs, coordinating accruals, obtaining estimates for unbilled work, and meeting required deadlines.
  • Prepare clear financial updates, variance explanations, and summary reporting for project teams and management.
  • Coordinate with project managers, contractors, vendors, and internal groups to resolve cost control, forecasting, and reporting matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow established Project Controls policies, procedures, reporting standards, and financial governance requirements.
  • Maintain project financial data using SAP and other approved tools, ensuring actuals and forecasts are accurate and current.
  • Analyze monthly cost performance and cash flow activity, including material deliveries, contract spend, labor, surcharges, and other project cost drivers.
  • Identify significant cost or schedule impacts and communicate risks, mitigation options, and recommended actions to management.
  • Lead or participate in financial reviews, project status meetings, and regular touchpoints with project managers and contractors.
  • Partner with Accounting, Legal, Supply Chain, Treasury, Corporate Finance, and other internal stakeholders to resolve project financial matters.
  • Prepare ad hoc analysis, presentations, and supporting documentation as needed for project leadership and management review.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Controls Specialist 2-3 years of relevant experience in project controls, cost management, finance, construction, engineering, or a related field

Senior Controls Specialist 5–6+ years of relevant experience in project controls, cost management, finance, construction, engineering, or a related field

 

  • Strong understanding of cost control principles, forecasting, budgeting, accruals, variance analysis, and project reporting.
  • Ability to review contracts, invoices, purchase orders, change orders, and financial data with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively with employees, contractors, vendors, and leadership.
  • Proficiency with SAP, Microsoft Excel, and other project controls, financial reporting, or data analysis tools preferred.

Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Bachelor

Preferred Disciplines: Accounting, Finance, and Business.

What You'll Get

 

Expected Hiring Base Salary Range:

 

Controls Specialist: $73,200 - $95,000
Senior Controls Specialist:  $90,900 - $118,100

 

The expected hiring base salary range is the range we anticipate hiring within for this position. The actual salary offered may vary based on factors such as the selected candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and work location. This is not intended to represent the full salary range for the position or limit future compensation growth.
